I purchased the Backup and Librarian files for FF 4. After installing, my system would crash consistently with an exception error. Basically, on both an 8 GB and 16 GB system (Windows 7 64 bit), the exception would occur after reaching approximately 4 to 8GB of memory allocation to the process.

The workaround I found was
1) uninstall FF
2) rename the old FF 4 directory in AppData/Roaming to Old FF 4 (keep in case, you can delete it later). You may have to show hidden files. (In the user directory, choose "tools" "folder options" "view" then check the box to show hidden files)
3) Reinstall FF 4 (most recent version found in Updates directory in old FF 4 directory.
4) extract files from library and backup zip file which you have purchased and downloaded to a temporary location.
5) locate your newly created FF 4 System directory in YourUserName/AppData/Roaming/FilterForge4/System
6) Move (don't copy) the files a few thousand at a time from the temporary library and thumbnails directories into the appdata library and thumbnails directories. For instance, move all files in each directory numbered from 0-1999 from the library directory of the temp/zip location to the filterforge4/system location, and do the same for the Thumbnails directory.
7) Start FF and let it index the new files. Wait for it to boot up.
8 ) Exit FF and repeat steps 6-8 with the next 2000-3000 files until you have copied and incorporated all 13000+ files. Remember to boot up FF each time you have moved files to the working directory.

This worked for me. I don't know if there is an easier way, but it got me running within about half an hour. It is possible that you could check the obsolete option to work with offline filters, and point at that directory, but I did not try that option since I had already destroyed my installation by following the directions after the download.

Yes, Filter Forge mail fail indexing all the 11,000 filters at once. You don't need to uninstall the program itself: just remove half of the FFXML files, run FF to index the rest, copy other FFXMLs back in place, run FF to index the remaining files.

By the way, I notice you have a copy of Librarian: do you really need to load 11,000 filters into FF, considering that you've got Librarian at hand?
I don't want to argue about artistic tastes but there are lots of suboptimal filters that hardly have any practical use.

Thanks for pointing that out. I ordered both Librarian and Backup at the same time, but only received Backup files. I did not realize I was still missing Librarian. I have contacted support.

I'm having the same issue. After copying the backup Librarian files into the Filter Forge roaming filter, I get this error when I try to start Filter Forge

<class XFW::Kernel::StdException> bad allocation

I submitted the bug reports. I also tried re-installing Filter Forge but still get the same error.

I also purchased the Librarian, but I never received a download link.

I removed half of the files and started Filter Forge. It started up OK. I add about half of what was left and it started up OK. I added the last 2000, and I get the error again.

I added the rest of the filters in smaller groups and now the program works again. I'm confused about the Librarian. Is it buildt into the program or do they have to send/give me something?

When I bought the program, there was two additional items on the order form: the Librarian and the Librarian backup filters. I didn't know what they were. I went to the website to learn more. At first I couldn't even find them. When you look at the product page, there is nothing listed. I did a search and found a few things. You could purchase the Librarian and the backup files or just the backup files. I went back to my order form. I thought the first item was the two things together and the second item was just the backup files, so I added the Librarian to my cart. After my purchase I got my license and a link to download the program and a note that Filter Forge would give me the Librarian in two days. After several days, I contacted support and they said I bought the Librarian without the librarian backup and the Librarian was useless without the backup files. But they said nothing about how I get the Librarian. So I went back and ordered the backup files. So here I am....

Kev914, if you believe you have purchased something but haven't received it, please contact the support team – unless you're willing to disclose your personal info here on the forums.

Hi GMM

Support just sent me a link to the Librarian. They said I should remove the filters that I added to the directory and then install the Librarian.

Only thing is...I don't know which filters were originally there. I removed them all. Then I reinstalled Filter Forge and then the Librarian. When I opened Filter Forge there were no filters at all. No even the ones that come with the program. I started the Librarian and I sent a few filters to Filter Forge and they show up. So maybe it doesn't matter that the original filters aren't there anymore?
