yes, all was fine. i was working on a number of different filters and no problems. today, when i try to move the button on the scroll bar of the list of filters in "my filters", it wont move past a couple dozen filters and folders and then goes back to the top. i left click and hold the mouse button down on the little square on the scroll bar of the list of filters in "my filters" and it wont move more than just those few filters. if i click the scroll down button at the bottom of the scroll bar, it works as it's supposed to. if i click anywhere on the scroll bar it will move just that little bit like the stuck button and return to the top of the folder list.

no other list of filters does this, just the "my filters" filter list scroll bar. the rest in other folders and the main list works just fine.

the only thing i changed yesterday was editing a number of filters and re-saving them under new names. i tried rebooting filter forge a number of times and that didnt help. there was no computer crash to cause some errant glitch to show up. i'm stumped as to what to do. i suppose i can try and reinstall.

this is filter forge 4 with all the updates to the program. i'm running windows 7, 64 bit. this is the first time i've ever had this problem.

i have a LOT of filters in that folder and i have made about a half a dozen folders within "my filters". those sub-folders are working fine. it's just on the main "my filters" folder and listing that does this. i can offer only one possible suggestion as to the problem: is there a limit on how many filters can be in any one folder or something of that nature? i tried moving a dozen or so filters out of the errant folder to check this, but it had no effect.

i use this folder a LOT! please help!

Could you put a screenshot with a reference of what you mean?

Maybe could be useful to understand it better.

I can't try it myself as my trial for FF 4.0 have ended.

Happy New Year. Best Wishes

I am also using FF 4 and Win 7 - 64 bit.

I am not able to reproduce this.
I have 43 filters in "My Filters" so probably not close to as many as you.

I DID have similar behavior once when I had a filter in the "My Filters" folder that was corrupt, but in this case it also ended up crashing FF completely.

Craig, I had the same problem until >I updated FF. So it was ok for few days, and 2 days ago, the problem come back again. So it is not my PC smile:) I do not know why this ? Maybe to many filters in my filters folder ??? I think that I have close to 80 filters in this folder.

I'm also running windows 7, 64 bit. Never had this problem before FF4.

ok, a small correction to my original report. the ONLY way i can scroll the my filters list past a few dozen filters, without it returning back to the top of the list, is with the mouse wheel. even the little button at the bottom of the scroll bar will only work to just a few dozen filters.

also, i no longer believe this is related to how many filters one has in the filter list. i removed a few dozen, tried FF again and then put them back. it had no effect while having removed those filters.

also guys, i'm not talking a hundred or so, i'm talking like over 1000 filters in "my filters". if you went by the alphabet, some letters have over 100 filters just by themselves. heck, some filters have over 50 iterations smile;)

Craig, please locate and remove the "c:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 4\Preferences.xml" file with FF closed, and start Filter Forge again.

ok, did that. FF came up with a smaller window, but other than that, nothing changed. the bar still acts the same way.

shld i try to re-install over the top of the current program?

could a corrupt filter affect this somehow? seems unlikely, but am willing to try about anything.

i dont recall making any new folders between when it was working and when it was not, but my memory isnt that good. i have seven sub-folders under "my filters".

v. 4009 did not fix the problem, either.

however, i have learned one new thing. if i have a filter chosen that is further down in the list of "my filters" than the bug will not let me get to by the normal scroll bar, and if i try to scroll down by normal means (which takes me back to the top of "my filters", and if i then pick a sub-folder of "my filters" and click on it, and i then click back on the main "my filters" list, i'll be automatically back at the filter that was originally there to begin with:

1. open filter forge and go to "my filters".
2. click the scroll bar of filters there or try to scroll using the up and down scroll buttons. this will take me to the top of "my filters" and subsequent scrolling will only go down so far and then loop back to the top of the list.
3. click on a sub-folder of "my filters", doesnt matter which one.
4. click back on the main "my filters" folder and i'll be right back on the filter that was there when i first opened my filters.

if i use the middle mouse wheel i can navigate the filter list ok. it's slow, but i can move around normally. it's only clicking in the scroll field or clicking the up and down scroll button that makes the filters loop and never gets past a certain point.

is it possible that having most of my filters in the main folder still is somehow causing this? all of the sub-folders work fine. shld i maybe remove all the filters from the main folder and see if that fixes things and maybe also remove the preferences file again with all the filters removed?

Craig, we tried several times to reproduce your problem but didn't succeed.

Have you tried to move all your filters into a subfolder, and then move them back into 'My filters' in portions, checking if the issue is back after each portion?

hi GMM,

i moved all the filters in the main folder of "my filters" to a sub folder i labeled "Temp". the result is that now the same bug happens within the "Temp" folder. so, i will assume that the bug is one of two things now: either i have one or more filters that are causing this or that the sheer volume of filters (550 megs) has something to do with it. i'm going to try moving filters back to the main folder a little at a time and see when the bug transfers back to the main folder. this shld help me isolate a bad filter if there is one.

ok, it would seem that this bug has only to do with the number of filters within a folder... i think.

here's the dat a:

i moved a page of filters fr om "my filters" to "temp". "my filters" was still buggy but "temp" was fine.

i repeated the process and "my filters" was still buggy and "temp" was still fine.

i then moved about half the filters from "my filters" to "temp"

ok, forget this.... here's the skinny: your scroll button seems to have a lim itation on it. i have over 6400 filters in "my filters"... or did. if i cut the number of filters down to under 900 or so (not sure of the exact number, but i'll bet it's a binary multiple), then the scroll bar works just fine. i also noticed that as i reduced the number of filters in a folder the scroll bar would move further.

i'm going to set up multiple folders for now for subsets of "my filters" and just keep the number in each to under 1024 or so. this is quite odd because i've never had this problem before with large numbers of filters in a folder, even when you moved to the new user created folder system. i think this bug may have shown up after a crash while in the editor and it may just be program and no one else's has this bug as a result.

anyways, i'll let you know of any other new data.

ok, it's now very obvious that only the number of filters in a given folder makes a difference. no matter where i put any filter, that makes no difference at all. it's only the number of filters that produces the bug. somewhere around 900 seems to be the threshhold. i dont have an exact number but somewhere in the 800's it's fine and somewhere in the low 900's it's not.

for a temp fix, i've moved all the filters out into smaller sub folders and i'm fine for now. if you can reproduce this bug, i'd be happy to hear it. if not, is it conceivable that you guys could make a specific patch to rewrite my directories and fix this? and if not, and i want to reinstall, i'm guessing i would have to uninstall first for that method to be an effective fix. and i forget, does an uninstall erase all the filters, too or not?

Hi Craig,
We've fixed something that may be related to your issue — it should go live in the next program update.

that seems to have worked a charm! i've not moved everything back yet, but i have moved enough to see that the scroll is now working correctly again! brilliant!

you guys are the best! i've never worked with a software company that was so responsive and so competent about customer support, not to mention the brilliance of the product itself! i was the second guy to show up when you guys opened up beta testing. only ByRo was here before me and he was the one that let me know you guys were here. in all that time, you guys have done a truly stand-up job! the amount of features you've packed into this software is truly remarkable! i remember when the file size of FF was a whole lot smaller, and it's still not all that big. smile:) the willingness of everyone, from Vlad to whomever, to talk with us and try to provide what's needed and wanted, is truly a breath of fresh air in an industry that is often incompetent and unresponsive and sometimes just downright rude. kudos to you all!

thanks, GMM smile:)
