Any ideas how to accompish this, maybe a filter or which program or technique to use (i'm completely worthless at creating filters
![]() The waterfall filter by Kraellin is great, but to make a smooth loop seems hard. I tried blending a bit from the last and first frame to make a smooth transistion, didnt work that well.. It should be just 10 frames, 1024x1024 resolution (it's intended to be used as a mod for a game). |

something like
http://videohive.net/item/looping-wat...ion-/70521 or this? http://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/37...-loop.html I it is difficult to make animations in Filter Forge you have to use the COMMAND LINE RENDERER http://www.filterforge.com/more/help/...derer.html ANIMATION WIKI http://www.filterforge.com/wiki/index.php/Animation |

The first one is too close up, the second is quite good, but it's impossible to say how seamless those loops really are though.
The best would be if it could be created by a filter, especially since it's very easy to create it on a transparent layer (the texture would work best if it could have an alpha channel). Yes i know about command line renderer and that site (if it still exists?) where you easily can create scripts to animate filters. It's a bit sad FilterForge is not that suited for animations, a missed opportunity since it has so many nice water, lava, fire and other type of filters that just screams "animate me!" ![]() I think i will continue experimenting with Kraellin's filter since i really like how that looks, only problem is is getting it seamless. |

Here you go.
Just change the frame number to animate it. Note that you have 100 frames max, but since you only need 10, you can use 0, 10, 20, ..., 90. For that you don't even need the command line renderer. ![]() If you want the whole 1024x1024 full of water, just set the width and the edge to 100. Credit goes to Kraellin, it's his waterfall. I just removed the background and added frame control. waterfall anim.ffxml |

Thanks
![]() Edit: ok i think i have figured out a way, i'll render a 10240x1024 texture and use the offset function in photoshop and then manually "connect" it where it will be broken. Then i'll cut them into 10 1024 images, that should create a smooth loop ![]() |

Here's a 600x600 10 frame animation...
Is that not what you wanted? http://www.dumpt.com/img/viewer.php?f...qj7nde.gif |

Very nice, thank you very much for the help!
I'm not sure why my animation didnt work out, i have mine more "broken up", like this: http://piclair.com/data/3fsk1.jpg (black is actually transparent parts). But i think i'm gonna try yours. |

Tell you what - post the settings you had on the filter to get the results you like, and I'll send you the 1024x1024 frames for the animation.
What I uploaded was made with Kraellin's default preset. If you want your water more transparent, the waterfall wider, or whatever, just tell me the slider values you need. ![]() |

That's extremely nice of you, i appreciate it. Though i can't really get it to look the way i want with your edited version (since its missing some settings). I think i'm doing it as i described above, still a bit unsure how to cut them to be perfect 1024x1024 images in PS though, Marquee tool set to a fixed size still needs a very steady hand to not miss a pixel.. I guess i suck at PS too lol
An in-game shot of how it looks currently (unfortunately it stutters) ![]() It will look great in the end i'm sure ![]() ![]() |

In photoshop you have the Rulers, find them under the view menu I think.
When you make the first selection, put it at the very top. Then click on the top ruler, and drag down into the image. You will get a guide. It should snap to the bottom of your selection (If not, turn on Snap to selections). Now when you make your next selection, it should be easy to snap it's top to the new guide (If not, turn on snap to guides also). Now just rinse and repeat for all the selections you need. ![]() However, I still find it easier to just do it in FF... Set all the settings you want on the waterfall with Frame control on 0. Save that image, and then only change the Frame slider to 10, keep all the other settings as they are. Now change the Frame slider to 20, save the image... And so on untill you are on frame 90. Then all you have to do is take the 10 frames and keep them in the right order. That's how I did the animation above. Again, if you want, you can just tell me the setttings on your waterfall, and I'll do the rest. ![]() |

Well these are the settings i use for the default waterfall filter (except for size, which should be 1024), but i'm unsure if it's possible to make something look like these settings with your version
http://piclair.com/data/m2yo2.jpg it's important that there is some activity in it, otherwise it will look like just one frame that is moving downward along the mesh (which is already animated to move downward so the downward motion in the texture itself isnt really that important). |

Hmmm... Have you changed anything in the filter? Because your settings look nothing like mine.
Or maybe you're using an older version of the filter. I have version 4a. |

Ah, that explains it, i thought you had to remove some stuff from the filter to make it have frames
![]() This is the one: http://www.filterforge.com/filters/6251.html It's newer, the one you use is uploaded 2007, this one 2008 ![]() |

vurt,
i made a couple animations using my filter, but the best way is to use Sjeiti's batch renderer, found here: http://ffbatch.sjeiti.com/ we can only hope that FF, inc. will eventually incorporate something like this into the program ![]() the thread that finds sjeiti's renderer is here: http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...ssage71482 If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

vurt, may I ask why the 10 frame limit?
If the vertical motion is done in game, and you don't need it from FF, I suggest rndering two very different variations of the waterfall in FF and then morphing from one to the other and back again. It would be better if you had more than 10 frames for that, as right now you would only have 4 frames for each morph. |

Hey Kraellin
![]() Morgantao: It's because the game uses 10 frames for this model, but in fact it was less difficult than i thought to add more frames to the actual waterfall mesh, so i will go with more frames i think. I did a 10 frames animation, by rendering a huge 1024x10240 image and then cutting it into 10 1024x1024 pieces. But i think it can look better with maybe 30 frames- |

oh, i checked out your link and video, vurt! that's a very nice job! love 'my' waterfall!
boy, if FF, inc. ever adds animation and a gui batch renderer, we could do some really cool filter displays here in the forums. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
