I still have in my computer the folders of FF2. I firstly thought to delete them because, having FF3, they were not needed.
But, after I had a doubt. All the filters of FF2 that I downloaded from the site by myself are already copied in "My Filters", so no problem. But what about the filters included in the basic version of FF2, are they also in FF3? Is there a list of the basic filters included in the two versions? |

ALL the filter that can be used in FF 2.0 can be used ALSO in FF 3.0 (within the same version or upper) there is no problem on this, you can put them all in the Library folder in FF and all will work the same in FF 3.0
Sorry to ask, do you mean that ALL the filters you had inside FF 2 you have copied them to "My filters" folder and you have not copied them to the Library filters folders ??? ![]() Are these DOWNLOADED filters from the library or ONLY those that you have created or modified ? If they are downloaded, why copy them to the "My filters" folder? (unless of course that you want really to have them there) I mean that you can copy all the filters you have downloaded in FF 2.0 to the FF 3.0 Library filters folder, and do not have to copy them to the "My filters" folder Moving Filters From 1 Computer to Another Moving from one computer to another would be the same as moving from one version to another of FF Where are the downloaded Filter Forge filters located physically? Guide to how to backup your FF filters library from your hard drive ALSO to be able to identify and backup a single filter you can see this thread Is there a way to undo an update to a filter I downloaded ?
I really do not know but I suposse and think that the filters included in the basic version of FF2, have been also included in FF3 Sorry, There is no list I know of the filters included in a fresh install of FF, BUT you can know which ones you have already downloaded and which ones you do not have yet using the Filter Forge Browser inside FF. See this thread below Advantages and Disadvantages of using the OL and OLIFF Filters Library

I explain better.
After the first big change in Filter Forge ( from FF1 to FF2 ), I decided to backup the filters of FF1 ( that I downloaded from the site ) simply making a copy in "My Filters" folder. Then I copied those filters in the same folder of FF2. I had only few, so it was not a big job. After that, every time I downloaded some filter for FF2, I continued making a copy in "My Filters" folder. This means that all filters I downloaded had a copy in the "Library" and a second copy, easily transferable, in "My Filters". When I upgraded to FF3, and I still had no filters in "My Filters" folder, I copied the FF2 "My Filters" directly in FF3. I guess it is a silly solution. Ha! Ha! ---------- Ok, let's forget it and do in a better way. Now I'm not sure if in my FF3 I have all filters of FF2. So I should: - Move the content of "Filter Forge 3" folder. - Copy the content of "Filter Forge 2" folder inside "Filter Forge 3" folder. - Move back the original content of "Filter Filter forge 3" and overwrite on the files that are there. This way I should get that the missing filters will stay and the double filters will be replaced by the most recent version. Right? ( I don't know why, but when, from FF to FF2 I did the same thing, the FF filters were missing anyway. Any possible reason? ) |

In FF3 there are several places you can find filters:
1) The filters that ship with FF are in the main program folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Filter Forge 3\Resources\System\Library). You have about 80 filters there. 2) the filters you make with the editor, or get from the forums, and the filters you got from the library and were deleted later by the author, are located at C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 3\My Filters (replace <USERNAME> with your user name). 3) The filters you download from the online library are located at C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Filter Forge 3\System\Library (again, replace <USERNAME> with your user name). NOTE: All of the above are the default folders under Window7. If you are not sure what your user name is you can type %appdata% in the start bar, or the address of your computer. NOTE 2: You can find the locations of the fikters by pressing Ctrl+L in the FF window on any filter, and it will open the right folder. To have all your filters from FF2 in FF3, you need to copy them to the correct folders, or to MY FILTERS folder (As in location 2 above). |

If I want to backup all the filters contained here, should I copy only "Library" or the whole "System" folder? The files in the "Cache" and "Thumbnails", named as the same filters in "Library" aren't necessary? ( Morgantao. Sorry if my question looks like a repetition. I only want to be sure. ) |

If you read the threads I have put above you will find the answer, but in short, the answer is YES, you ONLY need the library folder Really to make a backup of ONLY the filters there are 3 folders important Library Folder MyFilters Folder MyPresets Folder ALTHOUGH IF WHAT YOU WANT IS TO KEEP ALL THE SETTINGS, CONFIGURATION AND EVERYTHING THE SAME Follow the suggestion of GMM and copy the WHOLE complete folder of Filter Forge found inside the APPDATA

Ramlyn, like SpaceRay wrote, it's best to backup the whole FF folder inside appdata. That way you get all your settings, custom presets, etc. in your backup.
The Cache and Thumbnails have the same filter numbers as the filters themselves because they are generate FOR the filters by Filter Forge. It's not necessary to back this up, as FF will generate them again when it needs to, but it can save you the render time of all the presets. You wrote that "C:\Program Files (x86)\Filter Forge 3\Resources\System\Library" disappears once we uninstall FF2, so it is clearly gone since I use FF3. You mean uninstalling FF2 removes the folder from FF3 folder? If it does, that's a bug and should be fixed. If you uninstall FF2 it should only change things in FF2 folder. |
