As I am always thinking in ways to fix the great problem of organizing and be able to find and remember the filters from my collection, I had and idea that I do not know if it could work.
I have seen that the favorites folders is made in a .xml file. So I thought that: What would happen if make NEW favorites.xml files ? Would Filter Forge recognize them and show them in the FF library left side list ? I know that the "add to the favorites" option will not work but I do not care about this, because I could move them modifying the .xml |

I have tried and have made a new Favorites2.xml file but Filter Forge does not show it on the FF library list. This is probably because the main application ONLY looks for only ONE favorites .xml file so if there are more, it does not care about it and do not read it.
And I do not know how would it be possible in xml to make subfolders or subcategories inside the main favorites .xml file, and if this would be possible to do in some way I have seen this also below but have not found a way to it, Introduction to XML Programming http://www.javacommerce.com/displaypa...l&id=18232 XML Style Sheet (XSL) Syntax http://www.javacommerce.com/displaypa...l&id=18232 |

Spaceray, you can basically add whatever you want in the .XML file, even pink elephants and flying pigs, not only new subfolders, but that won't help.
If the main program doesn't KNOW it's supposed to look for that info, and how to it, it will just ignore it totaly. An XML file is a way to organize data so the developer will have an easier time telling the software what to look for. You can have tags in the XML, and inside the tag you will have whatever you want. The programer needs to tell the software what tags to look for, and what to do with what's in them. If your XML has a tag the developer never told the software to look for, it will be ignored. |

Thanks very much Morgantao, that is what I was thinking also, and what I have seen looking for XML creators, and is that the program itself that uses that XML MUST KNOW that he has to look for the additional info, because if not, it will be ignored so it will be useless to add more information
Is the same like adding a new Favorites2.xml file, FF will never read it, because it does not need or is requested to do it. You are right that the .xml file depends totally on what the programmer tell the software what to look for, if the programmer have not told to look for the additional data it would be same as if it was not there, FF application will not care about it. SORRY, I had this idea from the thing that you CAN add new keyword and add additional text to a filter and FF will recognize and show it, BUT I was wrong in thinking that THE SAME would happen if adding "foreign" data for FF. As you have said well, the programmer has already told FF app to look for the ALL the "keywords" and ALL the "text description" of a filter, so if you add MORE keywords and text INSIDE the asigned place for this it will read it, BUT NOT if you add the same keywords in another place of the XML. Thanks |
