Hello,

I want to confirm one thing I have been thinking:

NUMBER 1 - USING THE FILTER AS IT IS - If I download a filter from the FF library and use it, it accumulates a usage that is sent as stats to the FF server, and so the author can get a reward when this filter is used very much

NUMBER 2 - USING THE FILTER MODIFYING IT - If I download a filter from the FF library and use it, BUT I want to change some thing inside the filter that I would like it made in a different way using the filter editor, and then when I save it again back it will not go to the filter library, it goes to the "my filters" folder.

So my question is that I suposse and think that in the number 2, the filter looses all the usage stats and is not sent to the FF server, even if you have changed it very slightly, because if it is now in the "my filters" folder instead of the FF library, I think that the usage will not count and wil not be accumulated.

Is this true or I am wrong ?

Does it Looses the usage rank for a downloaded filter that has been modified ?

NOTE: The modification would be for PERSONAL AND PRIVATE use, I mean that I would keep it in my own computer and will not submit it to the FF online library.

You are correct.
If you download a filter and change ANYTHING in it (even the position of the nodes on the board), it's no longer considered the original filter from the library and the usage stats won't count.

Thanks very much for your answer, so I am right what I was thinking and the author looses all the usage stats and won´t count. smile:(

Would be possible in FF 4.0 to have some kind of way that if you modify SLIGHTLY a filter and make small changes, it could be still count and be able to send the usage stats?

I know that is probably difficult how to define and what means "modify slightly" a filter so it is still considered the author´s work, and fr om which point the filter is much more modified and could then loose the usage stats.

USING FILTER EDITOR ONLY TO MODIFY JUST THE SETTINGS INSIDE THE FILTER

I have seen that on some filters have some good presets and a careful list of controls and well done, BUT Perhaps there are some settings that have not been given as options or can´t be modified fr om outside the filter editor, so you have to go inside and JUST AND ONLY modify the settings of some components, so you will not be adding or deleting any component and you will NOT change anything inside the filter, so all the works still belongs to the author.

BUT you can´t use the filter editor to render and save an image, so the only way is to save the modified settings as a new filter, but this filter will go to the "my filters" library and even that you have NOT change any component inside and the filters keeps being the same it does not belong anymore to the author and he will not have any reward or recognition for it.

COULD THERE BE A WAY WH ERE IF YOU JUST MAKE A CHANGE OF THE SETTINGS OF THE COMPONENTS THE FILTER COULD KEEP THE USAGE STATS ?

Also perhaps if I want to expand the name in one of the control settings inside the filter, because perhaps it puts "Activate" and I would prefer and want to have it renamed to "Activate Grid", so the filter will be as a whole exactly the same, ONLY changes a little bit in the name of one control setting, BUT again you canñt save back this very little change and keep the usage stats. smile:(

Perhaps in FF4 You could make it that if you only change setting or names of components, but leave the Filter Info and filter name the same, it would still save the usage stats for that user, and for the original filter under the same name.

Yes I agree, with you, there should be a possible way to KEEP the author usage if you keep the name and so the usage stats could be respected and sent.
