Looks like this news article uses one of our planetary filters for their "Artist Impression" of a new planet.
At first glance I thought it was my own Galaxy Explorer filter, but upon closer inspection it appears to be something slightly different. I searched through the library a little but couldn't seem to find a match. Thoughts? Roses are #FF0000
Violets are #0000FF All my base are belong to you. |

Perhaps it could be this filter
Planet Creator by dmchris http://www.filterforge.com/filters/7759.html The glow around the planet and the shadows are looking similar, and for the background galaxy it could be from another filter or any of the many images available put as background. |

It could also be a photoshop work, there are several good tutorials (And lots of crappy ones) on how to create planets that look like this, including the shadow and the glow.
Another very good possibility is they used Terragen 2. It can do amazing planets, among other things. |

Yes, of course that there is no way to find HOW the artist have made this image, and could have used any kind of software, and even a mix of them, there is nothing in the image that could make you sure that this is a filter forge image.
