I see the conversion of existing 2.0 filters to 3.0 is starting, although this time we don't have the false claim that we can still download the older version like we had when it was the change to 2.0. Guess it's time to try and download all the filters I'll need quick before they become unavailable. Already missed Kochubey's Parquet, maybe I'll be able to find the old version somewhere in a backup, or else mooch it off someone.
Anyone else planning on updating their 2.0 filters so I can get them now before they are lost? Release the Mongoose! |

oh, now isnt that interesting. i'd never looked at this like this before. you buy 2.0 and there's 7500 filters in the libary, then 3.0 comes out and there's 8500, but now 500 of the older 2.xx version get converted to 3.0 without saving the 2.xx version and the guy that bought 2.xx but not 3.xx gets screwed out of 500 filters, if he didnt download all of them before 3.xx came out. huh. never noticed this before. good point, mongoose.
for me, i dont like to override the filters i submit too much. i've done it, but i prefer not to because i've lost versions of other folk's filters which i liked for just that reason. but with a major version change, authors might indeed tend to convert and override so that their filters are up to date, so to speak, with all the newest features. i think you make a good point here. the obvious first thing to do is download everything, always! you can always take what you dont want off and stick it on a dvd or something. but, i think the company has a responsibility here, too. perhaps there shld be a policy that when a new version comes out, ALL fitlers currently in the library can not be touched. one could submit a new copy as a new version fitler, but the older version would remain for those that bought the older version of FF. i think that would be fair. one other thing i do is to keep all major versions on my machine. each has all the copies of the filters that existed at the time that version was still the current version. thus, version 1.xx has all the filters that were available at the time and the same with 2.xx and now 3.xx. i dont actually have all the 3.xx yet, but i will. are you sure parquet was a 2.xx filter? i'm not showing it in my 2.xx library. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Parquet was indeed 2.0, (and maybe 1.0 before that) you can tell by the date of the first comment on it. Also, I found it in an old backup of my filters I did last time I reinstalled...
Ohhh, an I just noticed my stitching filter I found in the same back up got featured on the Facebook Page, wheee, glad I checked that backup now ![]() Release the Mongoose! |

Yes, this is what happens and is the way Filter Forge works, if there is a new version the old one is deleted EVEN if it is for 2.0 and the new version is 3.0 compatible only.
I understand you very well, because I have already asked about this before in this thread here Is there a way to undo an update to a filter I downloaded ? http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8909 I think that this thread above can be interesting for you There are two things that can avoid the updates and to have a backup of the filters available right NOW. 1 - OPTION 1 - You do not need to download one by one, as you can use the Filter Browser included already inside the Filter Forge application to download many filters at one time. Advantages and Disadvantages of using the OL and OLIFF Filters Library http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8939 2 - OPTION 2 - Buy the full and complete Filter Forge Library Backup which contains ALL the filters that can be found online, and so you will not need to download nothing and it is really cheap for the thousands of filters you get. This way you can have ALL the filters already fixed and NONE will be changed UNLESS you ALLOW Filter Forge to update it in your filter library, AND EVEN THEN, you can overwrite the new filter with the old version as you have already the full backup. See this thread here ---> http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8589 You can buy it here ---> http://goo.gl/ixe92 And then also copy the filters to your own filter forge library as shown here Guide to how to backup your FF filters library from your hard drive http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=8910 and Where are the downloaded Filter Forge filters located physically? http://filterforge.com/forum/read.php?FID=5&TID=9049 |
