I have seen here in this news ---> http://www.filterforge.com/more/news/998.html
Does this mean that Filter Forge uses and see the Intel HT Quad Core as an Octo Core (8 Cores) ? PLEASE, HOW USES AND GET BENEFIT FILTER FORGE FROM THE INTEL HT CORES? And having 8 cores (4 normal and 4 HT) does it work, preview and render much faster and you can see higher perfomance than having a plain and "normal" Quad Core ??? I have an Quad Core AMD X4 640 3.0 Ghz CPU chip and it does not have any core duplication. So If I had a Quad Core intel HT chip would it be much faster, or how much perfomance and render speed would I get ? I mean in equal Ghz speed and similar CPU level, so there would not be a point to compare a Quad Core 2 GHz with a 3,4 Ghz Quad Core. POSSIBLE FUTURE UPGRADE OF MY CPU I hope and I am planning to change and upgrade my computer by Fall 2011, and I am thinking to buy the Intel i7 2600K and now that the new Z68 chipset has been released it seems that it raises the perfomance of the i7 and is able to get the most of it http://www.anandtech.com/show/4329 http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/moth...-chipset/1 The Intel Z68 Chipset and What It Means To You http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/articl...o-You/1270 |

FF doesn't distinguish between HT cores and 'real' ones -- so yes, it will see an Intel HT quad as an octo-core. The benefit, however, won't be as noticeable as it would've been if the HT cores were 'real' cores.
FF's performance scales almost linearly with real cores (e.g. 4 real cores = ~x3.95 performance), but I doubt that HT cores would contribute nearly that much. |

Thanks for your answer
Is very interesting and useful to know that FF's performance scales almost linearly with real cores so it gets the most out of it and that FF doesn't distinguish between HT cores and 'real' ones -- so yes, it will see an Intel HT quad as an octo-core. The benefit, however, won't be as noticeable as it would've been if the HT cores were 'real' cores. So in this way a Intel Quad Core with HT at the same MHZ speed of and Quad Core AMD chip that is without HT would be faster. Not all Intel chips have HT as noted here --> http://www.brighthub.com/computing/ha...65861.aspx And I think I have seen that the speed perfomance as you say right is not 100% as with real cores, I think it is between 10 to 25%, although this also depends on which sotware you are using and how the sofware is able to use those HT cores, because it seems that cinebench software can see them as they were nearly real cores as seen in this Intel video promo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaJ3svZhohY Although not always an Intel HT powered will be faster than and AMD without HT as it depends mainly on the perfomance and speed of the chip itself, as perhaps 4 cores could be faster than 4+4 cores. |

Please, if possible could anyone that have a computer with Intel HT enabled chips make a comparison of how faster is an HT enabled chip and one without it when rendering a Filter Forge Filter ?
I mean to run a filter forge filter with a Intel HT enabled chip and take the time it takes, and then disable the HT and make the same as before, and so is possible to know the difference in speed and the benefit of prefomance of the HT in FF. Thanks very much |
