I have seen that there are many benchmarks for many applications, some 3D and 2D and some synthetic. I have been searching here in the forum and on internet if there is a benchamrk for Filter Forge but I could not find any, and it seems that this was requested to be included in Filter Forge 3.0, but there is no news about it, and I think that Vladimir will not want to spend time on this, as they have more important things to do.
So, I have an idea and suggestion that if there is no benchmark, we could find a way to make one here in the FF Forum ourselves. MAKE THE BENCHMARK OURSELVES HERE IN THE FORUM We could choose an image or photo as model base, and then choose a filter (or more than one) and make them render at a fixed resolution and then check the time it takes in our computers and post it here to compare it on different machines and configurations. I think as we all will be using the same image or photo, the same filter, and the same fixed resolution, it should give the same result so it should be a standardized benchmark that can be compared. As not all the filter are the same speed of render, we should find and agree to use some are very intensive and complex filter that takes some time to render, and perhaps some other filter that only need a little, or have 3 power hungry filters, or whatever any of you could suggest COMPARE FILTER RENDER SPEED Perhaps you think that Filter Forge is slow, but it can be that the problem is that your computer is not fast enough and it renders at the maximum speed it can with the cpu power it has available. So if we could put a benchamrks results of many different computers, that some are very powerful and have the latest CPU and some have medium power, we could see if the filter is really slow for everyone, or the problem is that our coputer is not powerful enouch to reach a good speed rendering. PREVIEW OF WHAT WE COULD GET IF WE UPGRADED OR BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER If we have with the configuration "X" and see in the benchmark that there is someone that have a better configuration named "Y",we could see at what speed FF could render If we upgrade or change our computer I have seen that filter forge is a CPU hungry software, and it like to eat as many cores as he can, even hyperthreading cores too. So if we upgrade to a CPU with more cores or more speed we could know if it will be worth to spend on one CPU or another depending on the results found on the benchmark here.
PHOTOSHOP PERSONAL BENCHMARK I had this idea since Photoshop DOES NOT have any benchmark itself, and on some forums they have made it like I explained here above Here are some example of personal benchmark on forums for photoshop http://photography-on-the.net/forum/s...p?t=717898 http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=200558 |
