Dear sirs and Victoria,
Once again I am contacting you again in extreme disappointment toward your repeated practice in making the current version of FF obsolete and unusable as far as compatibility with the online repository. Fortunately on a personal level I have purchased the lifetime upgrade that you offered, having once before been forced do so at no small expense. So, you are probably wondering what is my complaint. I have been testing the program to see if it a viable tool for my art dept. and recently convinced my boss to buy several copies(15) of FF2.0 that have not been loaded onto the other systems. I guess it doesn't matter they won't work anymore anyways!!! I purchased my version independently and with a "at the time" back-up disc. I get that I can utilize the now antiquated program
However I was compiling a Tutorial for FF2.0 and in the middle of it when I was able to peruse and extract filters yesterday from the repository, this morning I cannot. I'm not happy, this is =@#%&% $&! real B.S. Why are you doing it like this? Some people are not going to be able afford a couple hundred bucks every 6 mos. to keep using FF2 and I am encouraging any new customers to get the back up CD because you don't know when you are not going to be allowed to continue to use the library of filters. You probably don't give a crap just as long as you make those $$$. Really disappointed in California....

mr. weaver,

read the thing again. this is an upgrade to v2.xx. it costs you NOTHING! if you have v2.xx this is a simple, small upgrade to that version ONLY. it's FREE! your current version is only 'obsolete' until you do the upgrade. i forget what was added to v2.xx. i saw something on facebook about it this morning, but that's all it is, a small, FREE upgrade.

as for your other complaints, no one would have forced you to get the lifetime upgrades. i think you've got some misunderstandings about how all this works. it's really very simple; you buy a version at a given level, like the pro version of v2.00. every minor upgrade that comes out for that version is free...ALWAYS! it's only when going fr om a major version, like v1.xx, v2.xx or v3.xx to the next higher MAJOR version, that you're required to pay anything. but, you DONT have to do that. you DONT have to upgrade from one major version to another! yes, new filters made with a new version wont be available to you in the library, but you'll still have access to ALL of the ones made with your version or earlier!

now, i think wh ere some confusion enters in is that when they do the minor upgrades you are forced to do them and are shut off from the library until you do, but it only takes a few minutes to download and install the new minor version (which is free) and you're back up and running again. frankly, i dont like that either, but it may be forced to keep all filters in the library that are currently compatible to your version, completely compatible. i dont know. but, i do know it normally takes a very short time to download and upgrade a new minor version.

so, i hope this helps to sort this out for you.

Thanx for the input. I'm glad my coffee finally kicked in. My confusion was and is still fueled by the fact that when attempting to obtain the simple, small upgrade to my current pro 2.010 that current available upgrade is for Filter Forge 2.010 (already installed) and I am being told, when attempting to download a filter that I may not do so until I install the newest Upgrade. That widow, asking me if I would like to do so now takes me to the website page for acquiring the 3.0 Beta download... Hmmm, that can't be correct, let's get the upd ate fr om the FF2 tools menu but it simply tells me that the following disc images couldn't be opened because the Filter Forge 2.010 Se tup is unrecognizable. So. I will attempt to uninstall and reinstall the entire program and see if that fixes the issue. You would thing that PS CS5 w/8 gigs of Ram and quad processors would smooth out my end a little better.
I apologize if I seemed to want to debate my economic misgivings . I purchased a lifetime upgrade of my own free will and volition after having Pro 1 for a short few months before rendered virtually useless and comparatively feeble to it's newly improved counterpart. Not everyone can do so was my point. I have very few misgivings wh ere capitalism is concerned and thoroughly enjoy the magnificence of this plug-in
No matter what you do you have to pay if you want to play!
Anyways, I got figure out why this is screwin' with me, and thank you for your input

ok, not sure why your system is doing that. i'll relate what i just did to upgrade. i started FF 2.xx. it gave me a small window asking if i'd like to check for updates. i said no, knowing that there was, but i wanted to try downloading a filter first. so, i tried that and i got another window telling me i'd need the upd ate before i could download and did i want to do that now? i said yes. it proceeded to download the new version onto my computer. when the download was complete it also started an automatic process of installing the new update. it did this just fine. i started up FF 2.xx again. it worked fine. i clicked on 'download more filters' and it gave me the message that it was updating the filter list and eventually told me that it had done this and that some filters had been moved to 'my filters' on my machine. i then went through and clicked on all the filters i didnt have yet and proceeded to download the 111 filters. this worked fine and i was done. and yes, this update says it is v2.010.

now, if you already have 2.010, then i dont know. did you download this new version already? maybe magically? sorry, poor joke right now, i'm guessing. if you are indeed going to uninstall and reinstall, i'd be interested in hearing your results. and, if you havent tried that already, maybe you could just try running the se tup.exe again? not sure. i dont recall if FF has a 'repair' feature to it or not. some of the new software out there does.

at any rate, i do hope you get this working. and if you dont get results from here on the forum and your re-install doesnt work, try the contact form. FF is generally pretty good about responding.

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't checked back to the Forum until now because the reinstall method was successful and I have been feverishly working on this project that I had promised by Tuesday and I have every intention enjoying the upcoming 3 day weekend. I was apprehensive of doing so because last time I needed to so (possibly a similar situation), I lost all the previously accumulated filters. I didn't happen this time, maybe this is one of the improvements. I was caught in that same cycle that you described though being a mac addict I don't get to run the execution commands that are germaine to the other systems, they are always grayed out. Once I threw everything away (for that is the basic mac uninstall method) that was associated with Filter Forge there was no pre-existent application to confuse the auto installation process of the download. Of course this is all speculative as I'm an artist rather than a tech. I am just glad it's working
Thanx again Craig
