There are some potentially useful filters that use part or all of an image as input, that wouldn't work with a regular color image like the standard life ring. I give a couple of examples below. I'm not sure if it's practical to add them to the FF filter data base without allowing non-standard images as input in the site listing. I understand that that would open a can of worms that might best be left unopened.

Example 1: I make a filter that takes a horizontal line selection as input and provides, as output, a graphical display of the properties of the pixels along the line. The settings would allow the user to choose between red, green, blue, alpha, or gray level. Clearly the output of this filter, given a complete life saver ring image, wouldn't make much sense.

Example 2: I make a filter that takes a normal map as input and provides wear marks on a transparent background based on contiguous areas in the normal map with abrupt changes in the surface normal. In other words, a filter that produces wear marks along the edges of objects that could be applied to the diffuse map. Again, the output of this filter, given a complete life saver ring image, wouldn't make much sense.

So, should we just forget these filters and ones like them? If not, how would they be listed?

I guess you could submit them, then put in the comments examples of source images and their outputs.
