Are there plans to be able to render a displacement map in FF2 at some point?

In the mean time are we suppose to use a bump map instead to drive displacement in most 3d apps?

Displacement map = Bump map. Same thing.

The only difference is that displacement (as a feature of most 3D programs) creates additional geometry by extruding off the given mesh. smile;)

My 3d app asks for a displacement map so that the map can drive additional geometry by extruding off the given mesh.

So it seems you are saying that I can just import the FF2 bump into the area asking for a displacement map and I should be good to go right?

I would also like to see a channel opened up for displacement. I have requested that. I do not use displacement and bump for the same thing. I use displacement maps for secondary detail, that is, any detail that changes silhouette and is not defined by the base mesh. I use the height channel, either grayscale bump or tangent space normal maps to define the tertiary level of detail - scratches, small scales etc.
