Is it possible to move the filter library (FFXML files) to another location/directory?
I found a few threads that were from 2006 that stated that this feature would be added, but I can't seem to find it. In WinXP, the filter library is currently located in C:\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Application Data\Filter Forge\Library, but I would like to move it to another drive (where I store all of my data that is backed up on a continual basis). NOTE: I have Filter Forge 1.x |

Do you need to create a backup of the library filters?
You can copy the contents of the following folder: %APPDATA%\Filter Forge\System\ (by default it is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Filter Forge\System) |

Yes, I understand that I can make a copy of that directory.
But I have set my system up so that all of my "data" is on another drive. That drive is then replicated on a continual basis to a third drive and backed up to multiple locations. I would rather not modify my backup and replication routines for every application that I purchase. It would be much better (and user-friendly) if I could relocate the filter directory to another location on my "data" drive (which is already backed up and replicated on a continual basis). So the question still stands - Can I move the filter library to another location? |

You can move the whole user profile as described in this Microsoft KB article. Filter Forge will always use the %APPDATA%\Filter Forge folder, wherever the APPDATA variable points to, this behavior cannot be changed. |

Thanks, but I don't think that asking the customer to hack their registry is a great workaround! In my case, there is over 3 GB of data and almost 15,000 files in the %APPDATA% section on my computer. So moving all of that data is not something that I wish to do, nor does it make much practical sense. All I want is the ability to store the filter library presets (XML files in the My Presets directory) to another (user-defined) directory. This way I can work the files into my disaster recovery plan (just in case). As I stated in my initial post, there are threads from back in 2006 where this feature was discussed and statements were made to the effect that it would be added into a future release. Is this still the plan? This should be a relatively easy fix. I'm not sure what the reluctance or holdup is. |

I'm resurrecting this thread! There's another VITAL reason for adding this capability to FilterForge. My C: drive is a 238gb SSD and I don't want to clutter up precious space with data. Please allow users to relocate our filter files somewhere else!!

yeah, this would be nice. I'd even like it if we could do backups through FF to an even other drive and have that done on a schedule.
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Sounds like something to add to the Feature Wishlist.
