Hi

Can I just double check which edition I need in order to generate bump and normal maps using existing filters from the library.
I can do this in the demo version but in the "Compare Editions" table it looks like only the professional Edition allows this.
I don't want to create my own filters I just want to use the existing ones to generate bump maps
I simply can't afford the professional edition smile:cry:
thanks

generally speaking, all a bump map is is a gray scale of some image. you could take any image rendered in FF, run it through photoshop or paint shop pro and and use the hue/saturation adjustment layer to desaturate the image to a grayscale and voila!
If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Hi
There is a bit more to bump and normal maps than making a grey scale of the image, it might work with some images but certainly not all

All i am basically asking is does anyone else have the starter, basic or standard editions of filter forge?

If so while using a filter from the filter library can they select the "Filter" - "RenderMaps" - "Bump maps" option from the menu?

Does this create a savable bump map?

Thanks

Hi, I'm not totally sure but I don't think they do. If you were able to get the standard edition you could modify the filters outputs so they output the bump, diffuse, specular maps but that would mean several seperate filters to use and you'd need to generate the normal map in photoshop using the nvidia normal map filter or something similar. I can't really say for sure, thats why I ended up saving for several months to go for the professional edition anyway. It's just a time saver and convenience in the professional edition. Hope somebody can clarify this for you. smile:?:

I contacted filter forge directly and I got the following reply

"Hi whowell,

The Compare Editions chart puts it right -- bump, normal and other maps can only be rendered with Filter Forge Professional.

The demo version is, in fact, the Professional edition, only with the time limit -- its task is to show the users all the Filter Forge features, which is why it can generate maps.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Best regards,
Bella Beygelman, Filter Forge Support,"

So it looks like I have to get the Professional edition if I want to use bump and normal maps smile:(
