Hi
I was just wondering. whats the copyfright on the filters shown on the site? Is it Fine for personal use and Business use (IE Web Designers) Or Just Personal? Or even none of the above?! Or is it Ok for just links to hompages etc. Please Advise! Thanks, Luke. |

first and foremost, the EULA's are the binding agreements in all of this and take precedence over ANYTHING i might say here. so, take all the rest of this with a grain of salt! with that caveat stated, when you say 'on the site', do you mean in the formal filter library or ANYWHERE on the site? because, as far as i can tell, those filters in the formal library are covered by the EULA's, but those which are posted in the forums, are not. that being said, the formal library is covered by the end users EULA and the authors are covered by the agreement one agrees to when one uploads a filter to the library. both of these together basically state, as far as i can tell, that the end user is not bound by any copyright issues of the filters in the library. they are free to use in any way one sees fit. however, filters attached to posts in the forums are the sole copyright of the author(s) and are NOT bound by the EULA's! and that means that you need the author's permission before you can even open the darn thing. ok, maybe it's not that strict, but it does mean there are full copyright restrictions per the respective copyright laws of your land. and that means, you may NOT publish derivative works made with that filter, the filter itself, a derivation of that filter and all other pertinent copyright restrictions. so, there are actually two classes of filters for copyright consideration here, the ones in the library and the ones that authors have not published in the library. those in the library may be used without restiction and without fear of any penalty of a legal nature (i cant speak to any penalty of derision you might garner, however, from such uses in certain cases). and, those not in the library and thus, not covered by the EULA's and therefore the sole ownership and rights of their respective authors. and, just as a note to authors, you may want to seriously consider not publishing to the library and only publishing in the forums if you are concerned with your filters being used in open texture sales. publish in the library and you are not protected from that; publish on the forums and you are protected from that. and, if you REALLY want to be fully protected, do not publish in the library and do actually send in the fee to register your copyrights with the copyright office. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Um.. interesting idea Craig, I might consider that one ![]()
Would be just easy not to send them in to the library or put them on the forum. Nothing wrong with a little insanity ;)

If you really want any protection at all, go to law school and become a lawyer, cause unless you got the money to hire one then you ain't play any copyright games with the grown ups anyways. Such a tired subject, you can do anything you want with the FF textures, anything short of claiming your own copyright on them obviously.

Hey there, yep that's cool to use Gouged & Scarred, thanks for the curtesy of asking, currently there are no restriction on usage of filters in FF library - it's nice to hear of my filter being used for good not evil LOL, post or email your blog address when it's up and running ![]() ![]() |
