This article from Animation World Magazine was posted at my sign forum. I find it to be very disturbing and am posting it here for discussion and for the benefit of anyone not aware of what the US Congress is considering doing to our copyright laws.

Holy crap!!! That's definitely bad news.....required to pay for registration of copyrights that expire.....give me a break.....no one will post any of their creative works on the web.....and FF would surely suffer!!! smile:evil:

That's bad - how will that effect people with copy right in other countries, as in I would still come under international [ and Australian ] copy right laws but some one in US could by pass those laws and take anything made outside the US as it would not be registered in the US, if you don't want your work ripped off in the US you have to pay and keep paying [ or the flip side international companies will trawl US work to rip off ] ??? ............ corporate greed wins again............ we should all be concerned as greed is world wide, how long till all countries adopt the change when corporations realize a lucrative free harvest is waiting for them smile:evil:

Thanks Fred smile:)

fred, the only thing that bothered me about that article was that he quoted no sources, no referable facts. granted, i didnt follow up on any of the other related articles at the bottom of the page, though.

----It sounds like someone needed a 'headline' to rant under that week. If you release works out into the world without tagging them somehow, or keeping any of the project files, so that you can prove your are the author of the work later, then yer both 1) dumb, and 2) legally screwed anyways. I don't see this legislation changing that any, although they could of course alter it at the last minute as per the norm.

----Better safe than sorry, people creating 'artistic works' independently should be aware of at least the basic copyright laws, and any reminder (to keep up on that) is a good one in that sense.
