I've been messing with the 30 day demo and I can't help but think that I'm missing something here.

I'm using FF out of Corel Photopaint and it works just fine, albeit glacially slow. But in order to get the results back into Photopaint it seems I have so save the filter results as a file and then open that file with Photopaint. Is there no way to bring the filter results directly back into PhotoPaint other than this rather clumsy method?

This is the only issue keeping me from buying the thng. I want to apply a filter to an image and have that filtered image returned to me. I don't want to have to wrangle files to do so. Perhaps it would be different if I were an Adobeista using Photoshop but I'm not and I'm not going to be anytime in the near future.

Don't have Photopaint, but just checked the way it works on PS and clicking the "Apply" button does directly change the image open in PS without those saving steps.

I have the FF icon on my desktop and a lot of times I'll just open that and work on an image, save it, and then open it up in GIMP or another editing program, bypassing PS completely.

The 'Apply' button is conspicuous by it's absence on my application. It this something you get when you buy the package but is left out of the demo? Perhaps in order to drive otherwise normal people mad.

All I have is 'Save As...' on the 'File' menu. Just where is this 'Apply' button supposed to be located?

i dont have photopaint either, but i do have paint shop pro from corel, so maybe that's close enough.

i open FF in psp by going to my menu in the effects menu and picking filter forge from one of my plugin lists. it opens, i pick the filter i want to apply to an image/layer, and down in the lower right hand corner, instead of a save button, it says 'apply'. when i hit that, it closes out FF and applies whatever effect i've chosen to the layer that was active in psp.

so, assuming photopaint works anywhere close to the same way, you shldnt even have a save button when running FF from photopaint. it shld just be an 'apply' button instead. and since that doesnt seem to be the case here, i would think that either photopaint isnt a completely compatible .8bf plugin type or that your install of FF wasnt quite right.

from what you've said so far, it sounds like FF is opening in the stand-alone mode. are you sure you installed it so that it acts as a plugin? you did say you're calling it from photopaint, so, sounds like its partially working and that may indicate a compatibility issue or maybe it's just a file type assignment issue. is photopaint your default program for opening and running .jpgs and other file types?

OK, problem solved. Just knowing that there was supposed to be an 'Apply' button was sufficient. It turns out that when FF opened its window it was in restore mode but the window was slightly larger than my desktop. Since the window occupied all of the real estate available to it I never thought to look to see what mode it was using, I just naturally assumed it was maximized. The 'Apply' button was there, it was merely hidden at the bottom of the screen. Maximizing the window, which in this case actually made it a taste smaller, displayed the errant 'Apply' button.
