Sorry if this has been discussed or is explained elsewhere. (if it has, please point me to the right direction)

I noticed that there are several images made with very recognizeable filters from this site being sold on another CH site without obvious mention of Filter forge or Filter authors.
How does that fit into copyrights and rights of autoprship for filter makers or for Filter Forge?
If I use images made from same filters for 3D or graphics work that I make, how do I protect myself from someone claiming I'm using their product (images being sold on another site), as opposed to my own? Short of modifying or not using those filters at all?

At the minimum it seems unfair to take someone's filter, render half a dozen images with it and reselling them. We're talking about very distinct looking filters here. I'm not sure if it would be the right thing to say which ones those are, so I'll refrain from naming specifics for now.

Thanks for input and opinions smile:)

Legal ? Depends on what country you live in, the local laws, how they enforce international EULA's, and way more factors than any mortal could shake a $5,000 lawyer at. Will the hacks in question get away with it ? They are already, and no one can afford to stop them. Crapa seems to get ripped off the most, although Constantin is catching up fast lately. As far as "how do I protect myself from someone claiming I'm using their product (images being sold on another site), as opposed to my own? Short of modifying or not using those filters at all?" - You don't need to, as you've already figured out, those images are not protected in any way. I've been tempted to just do the same thing, like render out the exact same presets they did from the same filters, and sell them for less, just to try and put them out of biz. But then I'd just be like them, and it'd take way too much time & energy to even pay min wage back. Best bet = ignore it, and get on with whatever you were gonna do to begin with, since ya can't stop it.

They could be rendered out and put up as freebies on the same site a third party was trying to sell them. HEHE, gives more usage to the outhor. I know Constantine is waiting for more points to acquire FF. I LOVE his filters, and I feel bad when I see them being abused smile:(

I did bring up the issue at the other site, in the forums, but I may send an inquiry to the store staff. That particular site is doing all they can to be careful with copyrights and ethics. Or better yet, help Constantine translate and put together a nice letter to the store... I may even show Constantine how to sell there on his own.

That way if he can't het enough for HU, perhaps he can make a few bucks to buy FF. Or maybe he can come up with even better filters, and not make them free-for-all. If I can afford it, I'll definately try to use some of his assistance for 3D work I do smile:) (LOL, then we can get ripped off together)

It just bugs me... on one hand people putting in the effort and making something nice, on the other hand, their 'peers' ripping them off.

I guess it happens everywhere (offline too) Ain't life grand. LOL, okay, I'm off my soapbox.
