Obssesive Googling after discovering the amazing little Amphisoft filter pack, and getting an Oem version of the KPT collection for $39.99 on ebay. I started looking for other stuff out there in a big way.

Someone mentioned it in the same sentence with Genetica and Texture Maker, so I googled it.
Shortly after that, I saw it mentioned in a computer arts magazine that reviewed a few other plugins too. (It said it had over 200 filters in the library at the time. It looks like it's already hit 10x that amount...)

A close friend recommended it to me on a phone conversation saying that it was the way of the future for filter making, along with a few choice words about becoming obsolete if I didn't try it ~^_^~ Before Filter Forge, I worked with a program called Filter Factory to some degree, and although it was promising, I'm an artist that works by feeling, so you can imagine how I felt after I read something like this:

http://www.thepluginsite.com/knowhow/ffpg/ffpg.htm

or as the wiki summarizes at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_Factory

"Filter Factory relies on mathematical equations rather than a GUI, which can be quite off-putting to those who are not used to applying mathematical theorem."

So basically, here were my original reactions to using Filter Factory in chronological order:

^_^ -_- T_T @_@ Z_Z X_X

When I first used Filter Forge, I thought that it was going to be a similar song and dance, so was I ever surprised to find myself making Xenofects and Flaming Pear comparable filters in no time just by connecting the dots -- so to speak ^_^ It was the most fun and excitement I've had from a Photoshop plugin ever ~^_^~.

I found out about Filter Forge months ago while doing a search for texture making programs, but it slipped out of my mind. Later on, Enrique, a fellow commenter on Lifehacker, recommended that I check it out. SOOOO... SUPAH REFRESH TIME! Here are the actual links where I re-discovered Filter Forge:

» @ Lifehacker
» @ PhotoshopRoadmap.com

I also sent in a tip to the Lifehacker crew suggesting they do a post on Filter Forge, since it is free for a generous 90 days. Haven't seen it come through yet, tho.

And the rest, as they say, is history! smile:D
I'm enjoying using Filter Forge to create http://torley.com/textures
