I took a break to organize some of the tiles from the filters I made, and to see just how well they work with my renders. Here's "The Enforcer" which uses two of the textures I made for the outfit.

Really? I could never get such subtle variation when I tried the standard noise filters for this job. Maybe I didn't send an up-close enough render. I've been spending a lot of time, to get realistic fabric complexity for extreme close-ups. Here's a more detailed render, showing the scales don't match yet. I also need to add in the highlights and shadows. Yes, it's pretty basic, just for testing. smile;)

Yeah, I can see how you'd get there.

Filter Forge can do so much more than noise. It's like noise on Steroids.

But hmmm. Why so many flavors of noise at the heart of it, then? Maybe the filter forge isn't the tool I should be looking at? In the meantime, I'm impressed with what it can do. I actually think it's perfect for 3D texture artists.
