I don't know your level of expertise or your operating system (windows version, mac), but here is what I would do:
Windows: I would use the Task Manager when one of the filters is running and not running, and look at memory usage and seeing what tasks are using CPU. This can reveal if another program is using resources. Sometimes anti-virus software can be an issue. Another problem can be too many background tasks running. Use the Task Scheduler and click on the Task Scheduler Library folder. The background tasks are listed in the center panes. I'm amazed at what gets added when you install software. Use care to not delete Microsoft tasks, they are necessary.
Mac: run the
top command from the Terminal. This will give you a look at CPU usage and memory usage in "real" time, you can watch when the filter is running and when its' not. Also, tasks can be viewed using the
ps -ef command from the Terminal. Pretty advanced stuff. A lot of icons in the Menu Bar also means a lot of background tasks. Try turning some things on/off to see if a certain program is the problem.
Is this useful or too much...
