FF Professional 12.004. I keep getting the Error: Could not get image for frame 1 of the external video or sequence. I am using an M1 Mac using OS Ventura 13.0.1. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and worked out how to fix it?

PeterSquires, welcome to the forums!
We haven't received any reports like this. Please send the source video file to the support team if you'd like us to look into the issue.

Good that is finally available, and wish you all the best and that many people may buy the upgrade and use it and is used much

But there is still missing some features I have been waiting for around 12 years and still not included, and I do not mean complex things, I mean for example a simple and easy separator component for the settings panel already asked

Here are 4 threads showing that it has been requested many times since 2010 and yet not available in 2022

Suggestion - FF Setting Categories in 2013

Separators by Ramlyn

Have a SEPARATOR component to separate settings when making filters

This is pure speculation, but I believe that the FF team is very small and is focusing on areas where revenue can still be earned (video).

I believe the "lifetime version" was not a wise business move, and that is why the new Studio version with exclusive features makes sense.

I upgraded for the Studio edition to show my support and hope that the video material and performance will be further developed and optimized, but I feel that they are stuck with an engine designed primarily for creating textures for games.

The exclusive features of Studio version is because is totally needed for the animation to be possible is that it includes the artboards features to process the images "outside" of the normal "FF". When I mean Artboards I refer to Project files (Filter Forge document format) available in Studio version.

The animation and video processing can not be done with the traditional and original FF without the artboards, the same as the Image sequence rendering

I completely agree. Such a simple thing as a Seperator Bar would really be the least to make the U.I. somewhat better. And that is really easy to implement.
Another thing would be to allow for longer names in the field for sliders/switches. Why limiting the number of chars possible to input to such a small number?
There are many more things that could/should be done to improve the U.I. to a decent level.

In general, for a user of FF it is practically impossible to make a 'clear and useful' settings layout with some description of what the sliders/switches are actually supposed to be doing.
I even get confused with the filters I have created myself, because I am unable to name sliders and especially switches in a proper way.

Thanks for sharing the same thought and that would make the settings much better to be able to explain to the user what the settings can do using separate groups telling what It is for exactly and so the user do not have to Guess and try to find out

I do not understand and know why in 12 years (since 2010) this has not been included yet

One important thing is that when you put a group of settings that will ONLY WORK IF THE OPTION IS ACTIVE , so for example if you want to use the additional kaleidoscope option you must know what settings will work only if you actívate this part of the filter, so It must be separate

But there are more reasons to included a separator

Is really a pity that this is not available and really this is one of the main reasons I do not keep making more filters and using FF

I use this very useful application because I need it. I guess you like to create filters but you don't need it as much as I do.
As I said before, I guess the development team is very small, maybe only one person, and I am glad they are still developing FF and focusing on new features.

Making a very, very simple thing like seperators is a question of half an hour. So it's not lack of time, but unwillingness or not seeing the importance of it.
Also, the possibility to give controls a name that is longer than what now is possible would greatly help. To name the options (settings) for a switch runs immediately into difficulties, even if I use abbrivations.
Still, if more people request these things, it should be added.

The U.I. is really unworthy of such an excellent application as FF.
The reason I do not submit any of my filters to the library, is exactly that. I cannot ask of other users to understand my controls, if I cannot name them properly and not divide them into functional groups. I hardly understand my own filters myself after a while, and have to open them to look inside what's what.
If a filter is simple, one might get away with a bad user interface, but not with sophisticated and complex filters.

I understand the frustration, last year I worked with Zbrush, powerful yes but with a horrible UI. Why don't they improve anything in this area? I don't know, sometimes the core developers are blind or lack the creativity to build a nice and complete UI or they just lack the resources to hire someone for this task.
