Is it possible to create depth maps using Filter Forge and if so, how?

So take a regular photo without any depth information and generate a proper depth map? Not possible in FF.

A google search came up with this free online tool: https://3dphoto.io/

Thanks!
Apparently, my very $$ phone does not do this. Odd because the earlier version did if I remember correctly. Either that or they changed HOW you do it and I can not find it now. That happens all of the time. I will look for the app you mentioned here.
My very old IPad is far too old to accomplish such feats.

Do you have an iPhone? If it has 2 lenses on the back or more it probably has depth maps. Has to be in Portrait mode which activates the Depth map. PopPic app let’s you take 3D photos live or convert existing Portrait photos to 3D. Android is a little different as well as different file types. Need more info?

I think the option to save in HEIC/HEIF format must be used. The depth map appears to be embedded in the image file along with the color information and can be extracted with the right application.
Stereo Photo Maker (free) appears to be able to extract the depth map as well as Adobe Photoshop.

Stereo Photo Maker appears to be able to generate a depth map from two images and has some tools to align the images to produce a stereo result.
So even if your phone camera cannot generate the depth map with the photo, you may be able to process a pair of standard images taken from a slightly different view point with Stereo Image Maker.

I'm speaking from what I have read online, rather than personal experience.

My Pixel can generate a depth map from a photo taken with it but I want to generate depth maps for art I created rather than photos. JWildfire, the fractal program I use can do that but getting all my ducks in a row for the process to work requires a lot of time and many trials to get things aligned to work well. I was hoping to find something that works without all of this. You can create them in Photoshop from any image, but they are often far too exaggerated and the resulting image does not behave well.

Great camera. Yes $$. For you own artwork is a tough one. But... I have considered looking into this so I can generate my own. If I can come up with something I'll post it in Chaos Fields. PopPic is like Photoshop, it can generate pseudo- depth maps but they only work well on some images. As chrisd mentioned, the limitations of dealing with software and hardware are imposed by the mega-corporations, who would prefer the less we know about depth maps the better, hence the 3rd party software. Many phones are starting to add other maps, my iPhone 11 also generates a "matte" map, which is essentially a person mask, looking for faces / bodies.
