or is anyone else noticing that the recent filters page has filters on it that look
awfully similar to previously released filters?

I could swear that many of the filters that I am seeing when I press the "all filters
by submission date" dont seem to be in the right order.
For example 'old parchment', power button, its saying these were released in the last two days?

I have been playing with those since a long time ago relatively. Are these just extremely similar efforts of others?

Maybe I fell into that alternate universe again, where everything is the same except
the filter dates, lol. smile:?:

When existing filters are updated they also show up in the recent filters list. smile:)

LOL.

Yeah. Some of us have banded together and are working on a new range of filters that actually filter the space-time continuum. Currently, we are working on simple offsets and a bit of blurring, which is why the filter library got a little messed up. In the future, I promise we'll be more subtle so that no one actually notices that their reality tunnels are being filtered. smile;)

Ok. No kidding. It's probably me, as I have been updating my old filters to get rid of obsolete components, and in the process, I have been extra blatant in copying myself... smile;)

BTW has anyone thought that by continually updating their filters they might raise their usage rates since people will want to see what's new? It could be a way to game the system, not that I'd ever do it.

Well, it certainly shouldn't be possible to update a filter once a day for a prolonged period of time.

When filters are new, they often get updated a few times due to user feedback on the forums. However, 'established' filters could have a 'cool-down' period that kicks in after a number of subsequent updates, during which no new updates are allowed or accepted.

there is another aspect of updates which is a bit, or could be a bit, unwanted. what if you liked the earlier version better?

You'd re-save the filter and keep the version you like in your MyFilters category before updating it. Then you'd proceed to lobbying that filter's author to reinstate the version you liked... smile;)

I was starting to suspect this when I read the "frozen stalactites" filter froze up the program. It seemed just a little too coincidental that that filter had the name it has...
Somehow you guys have figured out a way to manipulate reality with your filters -- Hmmm, I'll have to figure it out so I can make a money filter...

Craig, I also had this same question. smile:| When I updated components on one of mine I found quite a undesirable difference between the two... so I don't think I'll submit an update to it at this time.

But on my 'Charcoal Drawing' updating components didn't affect it at all so I just tweaked it and added some controls. All the effects possible with the first version are still attainable with the update. (hasn't shown up on recent subs yet, but I'm sure everyone at FF is taking a well deserved break! smile:D )

Maybe...
if just updating the components gives a noticable difference then we could submit it as a new filter with a version number after the original name?

Yeah, we tried that, but then we ran into a limitation with the Universe™ framework. We'd have to reverse engineer the quantum code, and swap in some of our own routines, but obviously we can't do that without instantly getting sued for all eternity by 'The Creator®'
smile;) smile:D

Ahh ok,

Well that clears that up. So the reality filters are connected to the continuum
nexus interface.

Thanks smile:D

Banned him from the forums. BTW, this is the first ban in the entire history of this forum -- I didn't even know how to do that, had to phone the programmers.

Nice job Vlad. Over on my forums we don't allow free email accounts and have been forced to manually verify every account due to the number of trolls and spammers signing up. Hopefully FilterForge never has that problem.

So far, everything has been great, the forum didn't require moderation at all. As for trolls, our policy is brutal but effective -- an immediate ban.

ok, can someone please explain to me why when i plug the black hole component into the quasar component, FF crashes and takes part of my house with it?

and regarding updates and liking an older version more, i suppose one can always look at the presets in the download area first.

also, this tesseract component keeps inverting and re-inverting by itself and it's hard to plug other components into it. and even when i'm able to, they keep disappearing and reappearing.

^ Kraellin, seriously, that sets the tone for a "Crooked House" plugin. smile;)

Additionally, I'm happy to hear this community has been pretty friendly overall.

Related question: is there a way to view multiple pages of Recent filters? For example, if I go to "All Filters by Category" and drill down to a specific category, I can then view textures by page. Sometimes there's recent stuff I just missed but would like to see. smile:)

You may find this link in http://www.filterforge.com/filters/ on the top right corner of "Recent" tab. The link is called "All filters by submission date"
