Hi,
I often use FF to create abstractions from scanned in paintings, or to 'push' the image a bit further than my paintbrush. I apply a filter that I like, save, reopen, apply a different filter, etc. Unfortunately, I don't always remember to jot down what filters I used along the way. There used to be a way for me to "reverse engineer" my finished image to see this, but I can't recall how to do it since it's literally been years since I tried. Does anyone know how I can do this is FF10? |

With older images I did it by keeping the filter in the filename. In FF10 you can now do it with Projects.

Thanks for the suggestion to use Projects. Unfortunately, my level of FF doesn't include the use of Projects. I'm not in position to upgrade just now. So, without the use of Projects, how can I find out what filters I used on a given image? There used to be a way, but I can't recall what it was.
I should mention that I need to "reverse engineer" older images - already done in the past. Obviously, going forward, I'll simply jot down notes while I work on an image. But for now, there are a few images that I need to figure out what filters I used as I'd like to duplicate the end effect. |

In filterforge, look below the textures, effects, custom filters, and favorites category (on the left side) for the history category. Mouse over it, and click the arrow to the left of it to expand it. You can view your filter history (organized by date).

I see that feature in the program, but it seems to only show a history of what filters I used, in general, over the past several weeks/month.
It doesn't seem to have any affect on an image that I've made previously (showing what filters were used in the image.) Thank you for your input, though. |

I can't think of any other way you could've reverse engineered it other than by going through that date in your history and looking for the filters you used at the time you made the image. FF would have to somehow tag your image with the filter that was used on it after each save, and, as far as I know, it has never done that.
I don't use FF with photoshop, so I'm not sure if this would work, but with some photoshop plugins you can apply them to a smart object, which would allow you to open the psd and look at the filter applied to the smart object or swap the original image with another. |
