Filters in the Filter Forge library sometimes get updated and you can update any of the filters in

Tools ---> Filter Updates

and it will tell if any of the filters you have has a possible update and give the option to update it or not

BUT before deciding to update, I really recommend much that you open the filter that you want to update in Filter Editor and then without touching anything go to the Menu

File---> Save Filter As..

to be able to save a copy and add something to the name to remind you that this is the previous version for example "original version" or "first version" or "before update"

Why I am telling this? Well, it may happen that the new filter may:

1 - The presets may have changed and you will loose any previous factory preset that was in previous version and not found on the updatd version

2 - It can be slower than the previous one for any reason

3 - May break the custom presets you may have, although usually it tries to keep them, but to be safe, is better to have a copy

4 - Maybe it may not work in some way as expected as it was working the previous version

5 - It may be made the update for a higher version of FF

6 - Some things may have been disabled in the filter after the update, for example the seamless tiling or any other thing.

After the update you can decide if you want to keep the copy or not, but there is no way to recover any previous version if you update a filter

So this is why that I recommend to make a copy, as it is fast and be safe to do it and not have a surprise after the update

Thanks for the comments... I probably brought this on... I just changed Sierpinsky Crystals and it is different in the presets, a tad slower... gasp... I am so bad... just kidding. Also, at least in Firefox, the main page for the filter did not change in the browser. Not sure why. The page size is different now. I had to clear the browser cache to see the new web page and filter thumbnail.

Sorry that I really did not explain why I made this thread and is to avoid that other people can have trouble and possible problems when updating a filter.

Yes, this thread was because of your Sierpinski Crystals, but NOT because it is wrong, and not because you changed the presets and is much slower, I wrote this thread BEFORE downloading the update.

Really this not only because your filter, it happened to me before that I had before a filter with custom presets and when I updated it, the custom preset changed and was made unusable, and also on other filter I updated I liked one feature that was removed after the update and I lost it that I liked, and more things.

So this time I decided to be safe and sure and make a copy of your filter, BEFORE making the update and so I have a copy of your first version in case after downloading the update something could happen.

You are not bad at all, I think you did a great work with the update and I think is not really your fault, is on the way FF works. I have made some many tests and I think I discovered interesting things on why it is slower now.

The main reason that I made this thread is not at all because of Rachel Duim filter, is mainly for what appears in the FF filter update message that is important and you need to be sure that you want to update as you may risk your filter as you know it

This is the message I mean that appears on the filter update for many of the filters( or maybe all the filters)
