I occurred to me to try this, and it worked, at least in the one case I did it...

Editing the major and minor version numbers in the ffxml file allowed me to open a version 8 filter in version 7.

Only took me 11 years to discover.

Heh, you are lucky not to run into any kinds of problems with that. A part of this luck can be attributed to the fact we didn't update any components in version 8.

But if you attempted to do that with FF 5 and 6.0-compatible filter you'd likely see a hard crash. By 'hard' I mean 'crash every time on start until you remove the ffxml file from the storage.'

In all likelihood I've tried a long time ago with some earlier version just to find out that it didn't work, so I was surprised to see that it worked this time. I figured it might be because no major component changed between those two versions. Or no new component was used in that particular filter.
