Question about licensing?
Believe me I appreciate the free copy and Im not trying to be greedy my question is based upon the number of personal computers I currently use ff on
I have 19 at home and 7 at work
with ff installed on quite a few since I multitask alot
if You would let me know about the per processor licensing If I will need to buy additional copies Just let me know I might purchase 2 or 3 since beyond that is a little pricey for me
Please inform me of the per processor licening for Your produce
And again much thanks it was a HUGE!!!! surprise that I would even be considered let alone approved for a free copy
So believe me I would hold no disgruntlement or resentment if additional copies would need to be purchased by me
Again thanks smile:D

Voldemort, I thought that one of your lastest distortion filters had earned you the software for free? I would think that FF would (or at least should) give you unlimitted free copies and updates for the rest of your life smile:) Personally, I would pay good money for your filters if they were not available here....

(off topic) if your busy or don't feel like responding, I'll understand.... smile:)

I was wondering how you became so adept at making good filters? Was it your skills and experience.....programming background.....alot of experimentation?

???? good filters You need to look at some of the other folks here Mine are definatly mediocre in comparison

But Im just willing to try anything no matter how retarded or insane it might appear at first glance and I definatly dont like the answer --it cant be done
anything can be done with computers --we just maybe havnt figured out how to tell them how to do it yet

From what I've seen so far, it seems like alot of it "grew" from your mediocracy smile:) I feel exactly the same way about it.....anything can be done....just have to figure out how to do it.....

Have a better one smile:)

volde's a hard worker apparently, I can only guess how much time he's spent on his filters, I'm sure I pale in comparison time-wise, and lord knows I've wasted countless hours ha-ha. smile:D And I can only wonder what kind of mansion he must live in that has room for 19 computers ha-ha. smile;)

A house, well, there ya go, that's a mansion compared to my daylight basement 1 bedroom unit here ha-ha. I dunno how you managed to get/keep 19 computers, I have 2 currently, and I've been trying to find someone around here to give the old one to, before I give up, and turn it into an ashtray. smile:D

We issue free copes to beta-testers and filter authors under our Standard License, which is formulated in the EULA as follows:

c). Standard License. Unless otherwise specifically provided under valid invoicing, purchase order or licensing terms accepted by Licensor in writing (e.g. trial, beta, or multiple user license as specified in a contemporaneous purchase order or agreement) granted by the Licensor upon registration of the Product (online or otherwise as provided by Licensor), Licensee is granted a non-exclusive and non-transferable license to Operate one (1) copy of the specified major version of the Product by one user account in the operating system (“User”) during the Term of this Agreement on one Client Device provided that if multiple or volume License is purchased, the number of the Client Devices and the number of permitted users shall be as provided and permitted by invoicing terms or applicable terms and conditions set forth on the Licensor’s website www.filterforge.com at the time of purchase of the License. The Licensor reserves all rights not expressly granted herein.

19 computers at home? i thought i was bad with three smile:) now i understand how volde is cranking out so many filters; he's got all his computers linked but an interpreter on each that says something like 'if component A then component B' and that sends a message to the next computer which goes, 'if component B then component C' and so on down the line. so, he himself makes one filter on one computer but all the linked computers each spit out an alteration of that. so, when he makes one filter, he's actually making 19! very clever, volde! smile:D

Vladimir,

Sorry, I read what you quoted from the Eula, but I didn't fully understand...
If I'm one person, but use two computers, and have one copy of FF on one computer, do I legally need to buy another copy of FF to use it on the other computer?
(I'd normally only use one computer with FF anyway, but that computer is presently getting repaired (and it's taking over a month) -- so I'm just curious...)

I've been thinking about the license issue as well.

During the beta, I used FF on two machines, my personal studio workstation and my home internet machine.

While the beta version could be installed and used on an unlimited number of machines, the standard release version is restricted to a single machine, AFAIK. So, if I installed the standard version on my two machines, using the same license key, I'd already be violating the EULA. smile:cry:

In the future, I'll have to spend my weekends in the studio... smile:D

I just wished Filter Forge Inc. would use a user-centric licensing scheme instead of a machine-centric one, like these guys here do. smile;)

Sure. I'm not a lawyer, but the following two paragraphs seem to be most illuminating on the user-centric scheme...

Quote

1. License
Subject to all the terms of this License Agreement, Licensor grants to Licensee and its authorized Users a non-exclusive, personal, revocable, non-assignable, non-sublicensable right ("License") to Use the Software in object code form only in the Territory for the number of Licenses for which Licensee has registered and for which payment has been received. In this License Agreement, the Software and any and all copies of any of it are referred to as the "Licensed Software."

3. Restrictions
(a) Licensee may Use the Licensed Software in object code only for up to the number of Licenses issued (as described above), wherever located in the Territory, including desktop computer, home computer, and laptop computer, so long as such Users abide by the terms of this License Agreement and Use the Licensed Software on workstations that are under control of, owned by, or leased by (1) Licensee or (2) such User. For each authorized User, the User may install the Licensed Software on the User’s office computer, home computer, and laptop computer at the cost of only one license fee and at no additional charge; provided that only one such copy is used at any one time.

provided that only one such copy is used at any one time -- yes, this is a familiar scheme. We thought about this, but decided to go with our current scheme, at least until someone suggests a better idea. We'll revisit this later.

The link I gave above provides a very good summary on the user-centric scheme, and why it may be more user-friendly than the machine-centric one. Personally, I like to be able to take my tools with me whereever I go... smile:)
