OK here is where I am going to give myself away as not knowing this program very well. I am sure you can read between the lines. I have loaded a texture image of a rope and want to create render maps such as bump, normal, and diffuse and don't have a clue what to do next if it is even possible. I read that I have to do something with the lighting but that is not present as I know there must be something more I am missing.

Right now I have a image texture and the source filter in the edit window. Ha I do have the professional edition 6.009

I am really trying to figure out the node editor but I have not been able to just jump right in and those that can that is great. I am going to have to work at it. I have the same problem with nodes in Blender but am starting to figure some of it out.

I made a tutorial along the lines. This one uses Maya but the story's much the same: https://vimeo.com/50422621
Let me know if you still need help.

SKybase thanks for the link to the tutorial. I watched it twice at least the first part as I am not familiar with Maya but the principle is the same. I have some idea what to do with the render maps in Blender.

Your tutorial starts out with a noise filter the Pyramids which allows for a connection of the stair filter. I am starting out with a image filter which has no inputs. I understand the purpose for the High Pass filter as this creates some depth to the texture. It seems the stair filter is important but not sure how to connect this in my situation. I don'y mind trying to figure this out but not sure how this all works with a texture map of a rope.

Your tutorial does help with some basics and I will watch it again. If you know of any other tutorials to help me understand the filter editor it would be very helpful.

Thanks

Oh darn. I just took a second look at your original post and I feel as though I may have lead you elsewhere! Hopefully the tutorial did give you an overview idea of the 3D-texture export fr om FilterForge at least. But I realize now you're talking something a bit different.

First off, if you already have an image as an input and you want to generate maps based off of it, there are some filters that CAN do that, but keep in mind that these are using whatever the image can provide to generate normal maps, hence are likely inaccurate to how lighting should affect the texture.

https://filterforge.com/filters/9463.html

Secondly, although FilterForge may do this to some extent, the best tools are more dedicated. For example, Substance Designer Bitmap2Material can generate various image maps based off of image inputs. There's also PixPlant which does a fair job in this regard.

The key thing to remember about this is that FilterForge can procedurally generate and process images, but it probably isn't the best alternative to how PixPlant, Bitmap2Material, etc etc behave with image to normal/bump conversion wh ere both are highly dedicated tools to doing that.

Likewise it's possible to emulate image map generation via FilterForge's node tree, but I suspect it's far better to stick to those I've mentioned. Hopefully this clarifies something!

Skybase I understand what you are saying. I was wondering if it was possible to generate good render maps from am image in Filter Forge. There are some rope textures in the Filter Forge Library which are nice but for my purpose did not have the realism I was looking for. There is only so much you can do with a image texture pending on its quality as you mentioned. I will check out PixPlant.

It would be nice if there was a way to make a filter that generated the shader maps from a texture image. But A person could use it for most imported images. But being a novice not understanding all the filters I am sure I may be suggesting something that is not possible.

I just found a site this morning that may be of help in my situation. http://www.reynantemartinez.com/how-t...image.html

Give it a look over as I would like your thoughts on this set up if you are familiar at all with Blender.

And yes the tutorial you suggested was helpful as I did experiment with the filters last night and was making some progress.

Thanks again for your help.
