What is the best way to bring a FF texture into a layer in Photoshop CC 2017? For example, I want to place a portrait against a brick wall that is a texture available in FF. I'd like to have the texture on a separate layer so I can make adjustments, opacity for example, or change the layer format, such as "multiply." But I have not been able to do this successfully...and despite my very fast computer with lots (32) of RAM, it takes forever or simply freezes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still using Photoshop CS6, and simply create a new white layer at the top of my layer stack, sel ect the layer, launch Filter Forge fr om the Filter menu and apply the desired texture to it. Does this not work in Photoshop CC?

Sorry for the delay in responding. Something is still not working. After your suggestion, I tried filling the layer I am adding to the stack with white in case that was the problem. I was just adding a transparent layer. But launching FF from that layer at the top of the stack just brings everything to a halt. PS freezes and with it, FF. I have tried FF help-- and will again now-- but their first response did not provide anything useful. If you have any other ideas I would appreciate it.

How about finishing your art on a separate file, then bring it into your stack to continue with your artwork.

Have a great day, smile;)

I don't think this is a common problem, or the forums would be full of complaints. Maybe the size and/or complexity of your file is problematic. Are you able to use Filter Forge as a plug-in if your Photoshop file is small and only has one layer? If so, does the problem immediately occur as soon as you add a second layer?

Until you are able to troubleshoot the problem, you can follow ronjonnie's suggestion, but don't give up until you get it working smile:)
