Will Filter Forge work with a png? Will it fill in a default background when a filter is applied to the png image? Thank you.

Good news, PNG files work like any other graphics file. PNG files can have transparency, so that mask will work on filters that use the mask. Not all filters recognize transparency, no matter what the file type.

Most of my work (viewable in Chaos Fields) is done in (possibly transparent) PNG, layered TIF, and JPG for the web.

If I understand correctly, you want to use PNG with transparency but you want to know if FF will recognize it or if FF will not recognize it and fill the transparency part with the filter without care?

Can you explain a bit more?

As Rick has said very well, PNG is supported and used in FF and if it has transparency and you want to keep it you must use a filter that supports transparency (alpha channels)

For more information maybe is useful this thread
