Hello,

Yes, Getting ready to order FF6 for the pre-release $54 and possibly the FF Librarian 6.

My Current setup:
Filter Forge 5.010
Filter Forge Librarian 5.008 Purchased Dec 3, 2015.

I am very unhappy that the FF Librarian is limited to downloading only Filters made prior to the Purchased Dec 3, 2015. So I need to find the best economical way to proceed.

Upgrade Filter Forge from Professional 5.0 to Professional 6.0 (Win) (preorder) [#300739561]

Filter Library Backup 6.0 (over 11,000 library filters) (preorder) [#300739664]

Filter Forge Librarian - complements Filter Library Backup (6.0, Win) (preorder) [#300739663]

If I purchase the FF Librarian 6 on 8-31-1016 I will only be able to download the 11,000 FF5 Filters which I have, well not all of them but perhaps 1000 that I find useful. Will I then be able to also download the FF5 Filters made after Dec. 3, 2015? Will I be able to download the 100? FF6 Filters made prior to August 31, 2016? Just guessing how many FF6 Filters will be available on 8-31-16. That’s it! I will not be allowed to download any Filters made after 8-31-16. Correct?

It seems to me that the FF6 Librarian should be allowed to download all FF6 Filters regardless of when they are made or in the worst case scenario until the FF 7 is released. It is senseless to buy the FF Librarian 6 on the first week of release as they will only be a few FF6 Filters available. Best to wait a year or so to buy FF Librarian 6. Did I get this right?

So what do I do when I order FF6 that would allow me to use the FF Librarian to freely download all FF5 and FF6 Filters as they become available even beyond the FF6 Librarian purchase date in my case 8-31-16?

I just need the Librarian because it is very convenient way (it’s fantastic) to download the FF Filters. I had major issues using the OL and OLIFF download methods.

I am beginning to suspect that it will cost me $357.98 so that the FF Librarian 6 will allow me to download FF 6 Filters made after the 8-31-2016 purchase date. In other words the purchase date limitation is removed. So I will be able to download not only the 100? FF6 Filters but the ones made after 8-31-1016. Please confirm this.

Filter Forge Professional Lifetime Upgrade (Win) [#300442372]

Filter Forge Perpetual Library Backup [#300607507]

Perpetual Filter Forge Librarian - complements Perpetual Filter Library Backup (Win) [#300648814]

I removed prices from your message. While they are valid today they are likely to confuse future readers.

Librarian doesn't download anything - it only allows you to preview filters in side a filter library backup.

Zero. Filter submission from FF6 is not open, so all FF6 filters are still on their authors' computers.

I have already answered this question here.

I think it is $329 taking into account today's discount. Yes, buying a lifetime upgrade and "perpetual" addon products lets you pay once and stop worrying about any upgrades any longer.

GMM,

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Good idea to remove the prices from my post.

The Filter Forge Librarian can only see and download from the Filter Library Backup. No additional Filters are added to the Filter Library Backup. I am limited to using the Filters from the Filter Library Backup up only of Filters made prior to the purchase date. Correct?

So what would be the use of ordering the FF Librarian 6 if there are no Filters 6 in the backup? And you do not add Filters to the Filter Library Backup. To make use of the FF librarian one has to wait a year or two so that the Filter Library Backup has enough Filters 6 to make the expense worth purchasing. Why not give your customers the benefit of being able to add FF6 filters to the Filter Library Backup? It will greatly enhance your already good image and your great Flagship Filter Forge. Not a life time offer to download all Filters but the FF 6 Filters. The price of the Filter Library Backup 6 does not go up as you add Filters to it so why not let your valued customers freely use all the Filters 6 using the fantastic FF Librarian until FF 7 is released. Why are you against this?

I just need the Librarian because it is very convenient way (it’s fantastic) to download the FF Filters. I had major issues using the OL and OLIFF download methods. So with the free OL and OLIFF download methods one can get all even the latest FF 5 Filters however the paid Filter Forge Librarian is limited to only downloading only the Filters in Filter Library Backup up to the date of the purchase of the Filter Library Backup. It seems odd to me that you can have the 10,000 or so Filters using the Librarian but not the newer 500 because of the purchase date limiting put on the Filter Library Backup. You can’t see me but I am scratching my head.

In my case I will have to keep on buying the newer Filter Library Backups perhaps every six months to be able to use the newer Filters that is filters made after my purchase date. Will this work?

So do you recommend I wait to get the Filter Library Backup 6.0 or get the Filter Library Backup 5 now? Will there be any issues if I get Filter Library Backup with a current purchase date? Do I uninstall the current Filter Library Backup 5 or do you simply change the purchase date from Dec 3, 2015 to let’s say 9-15-16. This for me would be the easiest. I am asking as I want to avoid any time consuming issues.

Deadline for the discount is today. Ooops not discount on the Filter Library Backup and the Filter Forge Librarian so I can wait to decide. So I will only order the FF6 and deal with Librarian later since it is not presently discounted.

You had mentioned in another post “ask if there is an updated backup available. Unless you're asking for a new filter version (e.g., 5.0-compatible filters over 4.0 ones), we always accommodate such requests.” Yes they were kind enough to extend my Filter Library Backup 5 purchase date by a couple of months. What I really need is a extension of my Filter Library Backup 5 purchase date till FF6 is released.

It seems there is a misunderstanding in terms. Here what I mean by download:

"To transfer (data or a program) from a central computer or website to a peripheral computer"
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/download

So, Librarian doesn't download anything.

If you are able to download filters from the website, you don't really need Librarian.

It's not ordering, it's pre-ordering. Those who pre-order Librarian 6 now will only receive it when there are enough 6.0-compatible filters.

No, this would be suboptimal. Lifecycle of FF5 and its addons is coming to an end, there is little sense in buying a product that is due to expire soon.

You don't need to uninstall anything - just install the new version on top.

Nothing prevents you from asking again in a few months.

Hello GMM,

Thanks for the very prompt reply.

To obtain/use all the FF Filter I have two choices.

Use OL and OLIFF. I had major issues using OL and OLIFF. Do not want to re-visit this. Using this free methods you can obtain/use all the FF Filers even the very latest. Wow, and it is free.

Or spend lots of money and get the FF Perpetual package/bundle. (cannot locate link) Yes this is a lifetime deal and may be good for fans that have the funds. I am not knocking this! Looks like a good care-free way over the long term that lets you freely obtain/use all the Filters as they are released. It does not have a purchase date limitation through all the FF future versions.

The reason I love the FF Librarian is it is very convenient way to obtain/use Filters. It beats using OL and OLIFF. Unfortunately the FF non-Perpetual has the purchase date limitation. You can only obtain/use Filters up to the date of the purchase. You cannot us the Librarian/Backup to obtain/use any Filters made after the purchase date. smile:(

Like I said previously I can obtain/use the 10,000 or so Filters using the Librarian/Backup but not the newer 500 because of the purchase date limitation. Why not give your customers the benefit of being able to add FF filters to the Librarian/Backup? It will greatly enhance your already good image and your great Flagship Filter Forge. Not a life time offer to obtain/use all Filters but only the current version Filters. You are the masters of the Filter Forge Universe and you make the rules and you can change the rules.

In conclusion (finally smile:) ):
I am resigned to the fact that you will not change the purchase date limitation on the FF non-Perpetual. So, I will periodically about every six months buy the Filter Library Backup without Librarian. I will then be able to obtain/use all the all the Filters up to the purchase day.

Why hide the FF Perpetual Librarian/Backup prices? I wanted the link to show how silly your your purchase date limitation is.

My position to remove the purchase date limitation on the FF Librarian/Backup is reasonable. This minor improvement will not hurt your profits and may even help. So make the move to improve this great product of yours. I request that you do this at you earliest convenience.

One more reason to eliminate the purchase date limitation:

I can continue to email asking/begging for an extension to the purchase date and you did grant me two months last time. Thank you. I can email again asking for another extension, but why? Why not be good guys and grant everyone with a FF Librarian/Backup to be able to use all the Filters made up to the release date of FF 6 and the FF6 Librarian/Backup.

Does this seem reasonable to you? if not what is it that is so unreasonable? You are the masters of the FF universe. You can do what ever you please. Do the right thing. It will be a better world when you do. Anyone that can develop such a great product as Filter forge I am certain has the capacity to make things right.

So the reason to NOT allow to download any new LIbrary Backup to be used by buyers of FF Librarian is that they want that you buy a perpetual library option instead of just buying the normal one?

I think this is bad

Why there is no information about this on the FF Librarian buy page? Why you have to ask customer support for it?

In my posts I cannot link to the FF Perpetual Librarian/Backup. Looks like the FF management does not want people looking at it?

If the wonderful folks at FF do incrementally overlook the purchase date if you ask them and allow you to use the FF Librarian/Backup to obtain newer Filters why not just drop the what I call the "purchase date limitation". Obviously the FF management has a sense of fairness to their customer base or they would not allow you to get the newer Filters using the FF Librarian/Backup.

I already purchased the FF6 and will get the new FF6 Librarian/Backup if the "purchase date limitation" is removed. To get any benefit of the FF6 Librarian/Backup I should have to wait a year or so to purchase it so that the "purchase date limitation" allows me to get the newer Filters which were made up to the date of purchase.
