G'day from Australia.
My PC is finally in its last legs and needs replacing. I need to do a brand new install with Windows 10 and get new components. I will use Filterforge for creating A3 X 300 dpi files which are largish files. I will then edit the files in Photoshop CC 2015 The suggested configuration that I have from the computer shop is as follows. INTEL 17-6700K 4.0GHz 8MBLGA1151 SKYLAKE HI70-Gaming 3 VENGANCE 16GB DDR4 2133MHz CL10 DIMMMEMORY FOR 2ND/3RD GEN INTEL Saumsung 850 EVO 1TB WESTERN DIGITAL 4TB SATA GREEN 64M 5400RPM 4G GTX960 Gigabyte OC/WF2)C/G1 Gaming I hope there is some kind soul out there who can check the above items and let me know if they are all compatible and would suit my needs for Filter Forge. I trust that it is okay for me to post this question here. If not please feel free to delete my question. Thank you. Paul. Winner Jean Bogan Piano Composition Competition 2016

Don't forget a good CPU cooler. Since you're going to run your machine at 100% CPU power for hours, a default cooler that comes with a boxed processor is not your option. We have a number of cases like this where installing a decent cooler improves performance more than you'd initially expect.

Thank you for your quick response GMM
My good news is that my neighbour wil purchase my computer case etc for backup. Now I can add the following to my requirements. Power supply DVD player/burner Case. I have been told that I need a case with removable filters. Not quite sure what that means. Best wishes and thank you for your assistance. Paul. Winner Jean Bogan Piano Composition Competition 2016

I think that you have choosen a very good computer with wisely choosen components, although it could be even better considering that you want it for using FF
I will give you my advise and help later when I have more information to give to you |

Many thanks SpaceRay.
I have been thinking this through a bit and come up with the following further observations. 1. I will use the great batch renderer for FF to render files. Some of the files will be rendering overnight. 2. I will use the great animation package Anime Studio Pro to batch render overnight. Both files FF will be at size A3, and the Anime animations will be full screen DVD quality animations. What the above adds up to is that my computer will probably be running continuously for about 20 hours a day! So, I am very aware as has already been kindly suggested by GMM that I will need a very good CPU cooler. I think I can forget the above specifications. I need a reasonably priced ASIO supported soundcard. I understand that most PCI soundcards are ASIO compliant. I have two monitors, a BENQ HDMI Senseye LEO monitor about 3 years old and a Samsung monitor about 2 years old. I have wifi at home via a modem. The computer is connected to the wifi via a cable. The graphics or motherboard (I don't know which), would have to have support for two monitors. I think one is analogue and the other is digital. Been doing some homework and come up with the following computer as a possibility. Price includes delivery. The only item that seems to be missing is the soundcard. You may be interested in the pricing as in Australia everything is quite expensive. Here is an image of the possible computer. Hey guys what do you reckon? Thank you for your help and seeya. ![]() Winner Jean Bogan Piano Composition Competition 2016

I'm a bit reluctant to suggest hi-end components that are excruciatingly expensive. But since your budget is already over 4k US dollars...
Did you consider the newest Core i7-6900K instead? It has two main advantages over the previous generation: 8 cores and support for 4-channel memory. Here are a few reviews: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/2016/05...0k-review/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqt6__QmfgA You might be able to go for a 512-GB SSD instead of a 1TB one, and spend the price difference on a top-notch processor. |

i think that to be able to help and recommend hardware components is very important to know first how much money have you thought to spend, as this changes everything and is not the same to recommend components,
What I mean is what would be the highest amount that you can afford and be able to spend? In the last post of you there is the amount of 5499$ Australian and 4091$ USA, is the top limit that you can afford? Is this going to be for a hobby computer or for business and commercial? I mean that you could earn money from what you do Also would be good to know when you are going to buy it, I mean if it will next week, next month, or when you have finally decided what components are the wants you want.
The one that drives and connects the monitors is the graphic card and not the motherboard, so that graphic card should be able to connect two monitors, or alternatively you could have two graphic cards, one good one, and another on less powerful, both must be compatible I have a mac now but before I had a PC so I know how it works |

Hey StevieJ,
Congratulations. In Australia everything costs much more than in the USA, assuming of course that you are in the USA. I wonder if I could ask a favour. Could I send you an A3 file and ask you to render it with one of the slowest Filter Forge filters. I will also render the file on my current slowish computer. It may be interesting for everyone here to see the render times. You might not want to pick out the absolutely slowest filter though ![]() Best wishes and keep up the great work with your designing and contributions of great filters to the community. Seeya. Paul. Hey Paul... Kinda absorbed in something right now...but upon my research to get a machine that would slice through the slowest FF filters with ease, I discovered that having dual static drives with FF on one drive rendering images to the other drive has made all the difference... This is because I/O of Static drives are 200x faster than mechanical...and rendering it to the 2nd drive is much faster than doing I/O on the same drive... Good luck with your purchase...
