Hey there. Recently upgraded to FF4 from FF1, lots of great stuff in there. Just wanted to ask a question before I start adding wishlist items. There's a number of noise looks that can be achieved by mixing various current noises together, and then grouping the result. However, I would then like to use these groups inside the components menu, so I can add them just like regular components. Is this possible? If not, is it better to ask for new noises as wishlist items, or better to ask for the ability to package our own chunks of network as components? Thanks for any advice.

It's been frequently requested but we don't know the fate of it yet. Keep fingers crossed!

My sense from past readings is that the custom components request is better and more likely than new noises. Thank goodness FF gives us the tools to build all the noises we need ourselves. Yep, hopefully in version 5.

Saving user-made groups into some sort of a custom components library is already on our internal list. It requires a decent amount of work, I wouldn't expect it to be implemented soon.
I don't think new noises will appear at all — there is LUA for you to make any kind of noise (yes, there are certain issues with LUA that are being currently fixed). |

Well, it would be super useful, especially if we're not likely to see a lot of new noises. >> I don't think new noises will appear at all While many "Noise types" in other similar packages are really just variations on the standard noises, and can be constructed using the Filterforge schematic interface, there are a couple of missing noise base types that I feel really requires its own standard node. The main one is Ken Musgrave's Ridged Multi-Fractal. I'll make a case for it in the Feature Request section in the future. Thanks for the information. - Neil |
