using paint shop pro 10.

when loading a texture type filter like 'Crysta' on the user side, things are moving VERY slowly. this is with an image loaded in psp and calling up FF from there. everything works, but it's just very slow. with a 900 x 500 image at 200 dpi, it was taking 3 to 4 seconds to load each tile of the filter. and yes, i have made the changes recommended about the x86.exe file.

now, this was late in the day that i tested FF for the first time. i'm sure my memory was fragmented quite a bit and perhaps on a fresh bootup this wouldnt take quite as long. i have 1 gig of memory on a 1.7 ghz intel processor. psp 10 was loaded and possibly mozilla was also open in the background. still, 3 to 4 seconds per tile seemed long. if there's ANY way to speed things up, this is currently my biggest gripe with the user side of FF.

Have you tried the speed fix I posted earlier?

[QUOTE] yup. still took 3 to 4 seconds to render each small tile.

Plus, Crysta is a *very* slow filter -- any filter that uses noises other than Perlin renders slowly.

vladimir,

i'll check these again today. but last night, all the texture filters were very slow in rendering. in fact, i quit even testing them because i was getting annoyed with having to wait.

i think i'll also remove the file i created and renamed and do that again just to make sure i did copy and rename the wrong file.

Probably this happens immediately after you save the filter from the Editor. When you do that, the main thumbnail and allo preset thumbnails for this filter are rendered anew, in parallel with the main preview -- that's why it slows down.

A tip: switch to the Settings tab when you edit complex filters -- the thumbnails aren't rendered when not visible. Or, if you don't need presets, just delete them.

Yes, it was in the Main Window, not in the Editor -- but it does happen after you save and close. If the filter was modified, the thumbnails are re-rendered.

ok, the slow speeds seem to be mostly with the 'building', 'stone', and 'techno' filters and maybe one more. the others are much faster.

That's because these filters often use layered Worley noise (all our Noises other than Perlin are based on Worley algorithm). Worley noise is powerful, but can be slow -- especially with high Roughness and Details.

ok, thanks.

i've recently found now that i'm making filters, that on FF bootup, the 'My Filters' now is the default one loaded and this is much faster. so the initial loading of the program is now quite faster.
