Hi, I'm a bit of a newbie here. I'm looking for a variety of planet textures that I can map onto spheres (for a videogame).

I really like the PlanetGen 4 filter (http://filterforge.com/filters/11450.html), but it does not produce textures appropriate for a sphere.

Does anyone have recommendations or guidance for obtaining such textures using filter forge? Otherwise suggestions for alternative tools I should be using?

Thanks!

TBH-1138's planetgen filter, although awesome, does not map textures to spheres. He and many other filter authors use simpler methods to make the planets appear round.

Mathematically, ThreeDee's Planetary Noise Snippet is made to map to a sphere.

Sjeiti's Terraformer II uses the above snippet to make earth-like surface textures. I believe this is similar to a "mercator projection".

You can also map textures to spheres right in Filter Forge with Inujima's Spherical Projection, if you wanted to.

This should work. It doesn't really generate the texture from scratch so much as it remixes various source images into a set of diffuse, bump/normal, and specular planet textures. There's a set of source images here, but you can use anything else and it should work.
