Because: TRADITIONS!!!
![]() ![]() I know, I know. It's probably too early. Still, I'm asking because I'm detecting this ominous 'radio silence' on the dev side. Not to mention the fact that 'GMM sightings' have becoming exceedingly rare as well. Are you guys still crunching away on the double-click conundrum and all it entails? Best regards, Dilla --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Well I really wanna see a super solid release. I feel like the Wishlist's got a ton of enjoyable features that never seem to happen, nor do I know if they'll ever happen.
FilterForge has been quite the "go to tool" and I hope it continues to be that way. In order for it to stay that way, I need FilterForge just to continue being awesome. Unfortunately, the recent "recession" here feels a bit sad but I expect tons out of FF regardless. There are many unanswered feature requests and various details of the program's behavior to work out. It makes me wonder what happened to the openness of developers here! Where's Vlad! The forums miss everybody! Either way... I guess things just need to march forth. I wanna see something super awesome. |

We're working on something separate from the Filter Forge software itself (belonging to the overall FF infrastructure though). Should be available before 5.0 beta, maybe this summer.
Is this teasing enough? ![]() |

That's neato. Regardless, would love to hear all the awesomeness.
Mildly unrelated and off topic but mildly interested: I always wondered how the FF office looks like and what kind of people chill there. |

Website and/or Filter Library redesign? Getting ready for custom component online-sharing? Sounds incredibly delicious!
To me, it's all those seemingly small usability things that I'd like to see tackled: List controls, separators, randomization locks, control-ghosting for inactive subtrees, order-of-controls for groups, etc. These may not be the biggest bullet-points for marketing a 5.0 release, but damn they would make our filter UIs elegant. However, I do get the feeling they'll remain on the backburner indefinitely, since only a small percentage of the user base would ever notice the added elegance/convenience. If that's indeed the reasoning, then I'll take bitmap/control scripts, polymorphic components and vector support instead. ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

![]() How on earth did I manage to overlook that? Thanks for pointing that out. ![]() This was implemented in the recent update, I take it? --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

I bet this help article had been written by the time of the commercial release.
Sorry, can't resist quoting Vladimir: "People will always want more, even when they already have what they ask." ![]() |

Hehe.
We can agree on the first part of that quote, no problem. As to the second part, I'm not so sure our requests here are unfounded -- barring the occasional uninformed user, of course. ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

"People will always want more, even when they already have what they ask."
Man, I know this from the bottom of my heart. It's my core philosophy in a lot of projects: use what you have, nothing more. But there are these days when I just throw that out the door and buy 5 pretty neat After Effects scripts and fulfill my destiny of having more than I technically need. Sometimes, I just wanna see a bit more out of everything ANYWAY. Stuff like how about some artistic updates to the kaleidoscope component? You know... even if we can make more patterns using the lookup, I just wanna see that thing get some fresh air. blah blah blah lol |

And still, I'd take the red pill anyway. ![]() Also, it just occured to me that I can never again change my sig, ever. It would lessen the delicious irony in my previous posts. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Your requests may have a very solid ground — but many, many of those 400+ requests go far beyond the time/resources available to our small team. Besides, devs can't spend all their time developing new features: there are quite a few issues in the current version that need urgent attention.
I really don't have much to say about the 5.0 version. Vladimir is currently finalizing specifications for 5.0 (have no idea what they are about), and developers are currently working on that separate something I've already mentioned. |

Acknowledged. It's just that - sometimes - I wish you guys would be a bit more open about what's brewing on the development side. You know, keep us excited about FF. Throw us some bits here and there. Tease us. All in all I have the impression the community is a pretty patient bunch when it comes to feature requests. Well, I know I am. ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

We're a bit reluctant about that: we can't promise something and fail to implement that. For example, we expected to include an often requested feature into FF4, but unfortunately Filter Manager took longer to develop than expected, and we were very pressed for time in 2013. Implementing that feature was not a speculation: we had planned it up to the point of a complete design spec and even a corresponding help section. This case only strengthens the approach to announce only features that will surely go into the release. |

I mean that's a responsible way of dealing with it. At least I understand that since whenever it was haha.
I think what happens though is that these forums are super open and it really really really feels homey. Like the Modo forums, the really open nature of it just kinda asks for something that's probably unintended by developers. That is simply put: people asking what's going in and what's not. I personally think it's kinda like FF's biggest strength: that it's just really like home. So in many ways just doing those beta releases are really really nice. The mild catch here is that given the volume of people interested in the program, I'm pretty sure there are always going to be inquires about what's up coming up next anyway. But tease us anyway. It's fun knowing. Keeps me fueled. |

Some news is better then no news but we don't need to know everything. Where's the fun in discovering the "hidden treasures" if we knew exactly everything about new versions?
