As there have been some people asking to have the license key to be able to use their new Filter Forge (FF) 4.0.7 I wonder if it is really needed the key or while waiting for the key you can still use the trial version

When you install the new FF 4.0 you will see this appearing the first time you start FF 4.0

I decided to make this thread because there seems to be some persons desperate and in a hurry to get their license key as soon as possible to be able to use their new FF 4.0.7 and I think that this is not needed as you could still use it as trial for 30 days and there is still time to be able to get the key.

Why is needed to get the key in the first hours after the final release?

Sorry that I do not understand why some persons feel bad and are anxious to get the key as soon as possible to be able to use the new FF 4.0

I had installed FF 4.0 beta 2, and when I installed the new FF 4.0.7 it was installed in the same folder over the beta and was converted to the final version, and then the beta key I had expired and need to enter the new key

I have not received any email with the newsletter of the final release of FF 4.0, and I did not either received the email with my new license key for FF 4.0 because I have not upgraded yet

But even then I can use then new FF 4.0 without any problem as a trial for the next 30 days

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE LICENCE KEY FOR FF 4.0.7

1 - When will you need to have the license key to keep working with the new FF 4.0.7?

Because it seems that as I see it and fr om my personal experience it seems that you will not need it until the 30 days trials ends of the new FF 4.0.7

2 - Does the trial version of FF 4.0.7 have any limitation compared to the final version?

As far as I know you there are none, and is fully working and without any limitation and you can also submit filters

3 - If I did not own FF before and was just using FF 3.0 trial or FF 4.0 beta and the trial expired, would I be able to use the full 30 days of the FF 4.0.7 trial before needing the key?

I own FF 3.0 Pro and was using FF 4.0 beta 2 with the extended beta license (more than 30 days) and so I can´t know about this, but I think that as this is a new version, even if you had expired the previous trial period, the 30 days are valid again.

4 - Is there any possible situation where you would need the license key of FF 4.0.7 to be able to keep using it?

I do not know if there could be any other possible situation wh ere you must have the license key to be able to keep using FF 4.0.7 and you can´t use the trial.

Yes the Trial has limitations when it comes to the Render Maps menu. Only "Off" and "Alpha Map" is available.

So if you depend on making other maps than the fully Integrated or Alpha Maps you will need a key. And for me that is indeed the case. All the filters I am working with I need to render normal maps and specular maps as a minimum.

Edit: Ok I just noticed that waiting for the filter to finish rendering the full Render Maps menu actually showed up. I then reinstalled FF 4 and now it shows up already fr om start.

Not sure what was happening. Maybe an installation bug caused a "hang" in a function call or something. But now it Works and I can confirm that the trial is without lim itations.

NOTE: I have made a mistake with the FF version, is not 4.0.7 , the right one is 4.0.6, sorry that I have put it wrong

I have the trial version and there is no problem using the render maps, maybe because on some filters that is slow it will take some time to show the options of the render maps, but they are not disabled in the trial version
