Filter Forge 4.0 has been officially released:
http://filterforge.com/features/

I know you may have been expecting something different, but we're running behind all possible schedules with this release. Sorry, no Beta stage 3 this time.

However we realize the new features may still contain bugs, so the testing period is extended until mid-December. You can still find and report bugs in the Beta 4.0 forum, and bug points will be awarded for confirmed bugs. I will let you know further when the testing program is about to be closed.

Please discuss the most long-awaited feature (and any other questions related to FF 4) in this thread.

That's good news thanks.

When do we get our key if we preordered?

License keys are being sent out at the moment (there are thousands of those with 4.0 preorders, and the process takes several hours.)

Great, I got the email already (I also preordered 4.0 when I purchased 3.0). Unluckily, it won't work for some reason smile:( smile:( smile:cry: smile:cry:
I've posted in the appropriate forum. [update: solved!!]

Anyway... congrats for releasing FF 4.0 as promised, before the end of the year. Not everybody keeps their word these days!

Really thankful for the new filter manager! Thanks FF team!

Certain actions, like creating new folders and (sometimes) dragging filters into other folders, freezes the interface for a few seconds. But this is a mild annoyance.

Also, on the filter manager page, the first screenshot shows three filters with the word "bug" in their titles. Thanks for investigating our bug reports, but you may want to edit this.

Apart fr om the lag and freezes, I´m glad that we can finally organize our library! I also love the fact that it doesn´t rerender the preset thumbnails all the time anymore!! smile:D

Being able to reorder the thumbnails by drag and dropping would make this perfect!
Oh and it would be great if there was an option to rename the filter in Custom Filters.

One small thing, I find it very annoying when dragging filters fr om My Filters into new folders, that I have to go back and scroll all the way back to wh ere I just was. It would be nice if it remembered it´s position or just stayed wh ere it was.

Would "several" be more than 8?

Just wondering as I have not yet received mine. (Spam folder checked. Ten zillion emails with the words "Black Friday", none with the words "Filter Forge" smile;)

THE GOODS THINGS

WOW!! I was not expecting that this release would be so SOON! I thought it would be around middle of December.

Congratulations for the New Release of FF 4.0! Really thanks very much for the new filter manager that will change very much how the filters can be used and organized, AND more important and a very good thing is that you can have the same filter in many different folders so you can put many different folders categories, Thanks FF team.

I wish the best for this new version and that it gets more popular.

Yes, I have seen also this that now there are many lags and temporal freezes when using the filter list, but I hope that this is going to be solved.

THE BAD THINGS

Is a pity that FF 4.0 ONLY has these 3 new features (good and worthy ones of course) and does not include the following

- Randomization locks that are really VERY NEEDED from my point of view and I thought that it would be included

- does not include any change to the presets part for reorder, naming and organizing

- No Vector support

- No upgrade or added elements to other components, like for example an update to bomber to control more the particles

lol course you'd mention the things that didn't get added in. Means there's more to look forward to, but as much as I'd rather see a really really really stable version of FilterForge.

This was tested and scrapped - don't know the particular reason.

Could you please elaborate on that? On my machine it remembers the current position in any library or custom folder. I see what you mean -- this is going to be implemented in 4.007.

I totally agree, sorry that I do not understand why many are desperate to get the key when really is not needed, unless you have already used the trial and needs the key to keep using it.

I installed FF 4.0 and when running first time it did ask for the key, BUT instead of this I simply clicked on the 30 days trial and it works, because as far as I know there is no limitation on the demo VS full version.

I have not seen if I have received any key or not, as CFandM have there is still much time until is really needed

NOTE: I posted the following message under a different topic that had already been started by someone else, but then decided that it would be more appropriate here, being as this is the official 4.0 thread.

Hello. Thank you for promptly sending me the email this morning containing my registration number for Filter Forge Professional 4.0. I appreciate it.

I just became a Filter Forge user barely a month ago when I purchased FF 3.0, along with pre-ordering FF 4.0, so I am obviously a newbie, and I have barely gotten my feet wet.

At any rate, upon installing FF 4.0 this morning, I realized that, as you noted above, 4.0 is a completely separate installation from 3.0, including the folder that is stored in the "Application Support" folder under Mac OS X Mavericks.

Upon recently receiving the library backup DVD for 3.0, I installed the entire library from the DVD, as well as some other filters which I downloaded directly from your site, into 3.0.

Upon launching 4.0 for the first time, I realized that all of the additional filters which I had installed in 3.0 are not included, obviously because 4.0 has a separate folder in the "Applications Support" folder.

So my question is this: What is the safest, easiest, quickest way to transfer or import all of my filters from 3.0 into 4.0? Is this even possible, or am I going to have to use the backup library DVD to install those filters into 4.0, and then re-download the filters I had also downloaded directly from your site?

If there is no easy way to do this, I would like to suggest that you consider writing some kind of migration assistant which will automatically import all of my filters from 3.0 into 4.0.

Finally, I have a question regarding the lifetime license. Being as I just purchased 3.0 a month ago, and pre-ordered 4.0 at the same time as well, I am a little confused, and I am wondering how the lifetime license offer affects me, and how much I would have to pay for it.

Thank you for your kind attention to these matters. I look forward to your response.

Ok I tested this myself and found that the key I got for 4.0 Beta wont Work.

I have a subscription for Filter Forge Pro and if I remember right I should be granted with a license for newest version always.

I have not received any new key for the final release of 4.0 so what do I do?

Sorry that I do not understand you, what you mean with miss?

Do you want to copy and paste filters instead of the drag and drop?

Why copy and paste folders?

Sorry, that I may be missing something and as it is new I have not had much experience with filter manager

Hello,
I can confirm that (strangely enough?!) GMail antispam filters let the "Filter Forge 4 Released" email pass throug, while they block the email containing the serial number.
Cheers

Apart from the lag and freezes

Sharandra, these might happen because of our extra-paranoid pre-deletion checks. Every time we move filters from one location to another (e.g. when migrating a storage folder or during drag-and-drop move), we do a mandatory binary comparison of source and destination folders. If and only if the comparison indicates that source and destination folders have identical content, we proceed with deletion of the source folder.

Until the dust settles, I'd like to keep this check in the code. We can consider removing it later.

The bug I reported with on Mac OS X in Beta 2 is still there making it useless. Click a couple of times on different filters in the browser, bam.

Sorry guys, I got a bug-point but the bug is still there.

Like very much and is very useful to have the new History list of used filters and the searches you have done before, well done and cool idea.

It has happened to me many that I want to back to a filter I was using yesterday and I have to search for it, and sometimes I do not remember wich one was, and also in the search before you could only do just one search at a time, and now with the search history list you can made many and have them available again when you want it to use it again (until is deleted from the list)

Worthy and valuable addition to filter forge
