I was determined to find a way to get a list of all the filters' presets in My Filters folder for cataloging purposes, and almost as soon as I got started the Thumbnails files were unclear, but then I solved the mystery and I am here to share it.

Instead of rendering examples of every preset, this solution takes the preexisting preset images from:

In the case of a Mac:
User/'user'/Library/Application Support/Filter Forge 4/System/Thumbnails
(where 'user' is your user name)

The key to decoding these files is that the presets are 84 x 84 pixels (@ 3 bytes /pixel) with the first (6924 + (# of presets*4)) bytes being dropped.

Then the next issue was the cumulative nature of the Thumbnails files list, meaning that all the filters you've ever had in the My Filters folder has a thumbnail file, so a comparison needs to be made between the current My FIlters folder and the Thumbnails folder.

So without further delay, a way to catalog all the filter presets and print them (needs Mathematica Player Pro 7 or greater):

FFPresetParse.nb

This can be useful and interesting, sometime ago I asked if there could be a way to print a list of all the filters you have in you FF Library inside filter forge, although it would be only the main thumbnail and not the presets inside, AND also have the name of the filter and not only the thumbnail.

If I understand right, what you can do is to be able to print all the presets of the "my filters" folder, and so I ask if it would be possible to print only the first preset alone and not all of the presets, and have the name of the filter of that preset. And also of this could be done not only to the "my filters" folder and also to the main FF Library list.

Would be possible to make a print list of all FF downloaded filters ?

Yeah, I'm working on an app to do my gardening, on my virtual farm lol!

The way this works now, the filter name is slightly opaque over the 1st preset. You can either have it displayed/printed as a list of only the first preset or all presets, and the folder selected does NOT have to be the 'My Filters' folder. So yep, all the downloaded filters could be printed too. smile:)

Thanks xirja, good news, then if this is possible, I will download the mathematica player 7 and see what I can do with your .nb file

The free player I don't think will work.

I figure there must be some students here who have the student version of mathematica or mathematica player pro, because I do not mean for this to be an ad for Wolfram by any means. I just chose this route because of the ease of development of programs for personal use.

Sorry that I have not seen the PRO part in the first post, and this changes much as one is free, and the PRO version is 195$, and I would not pay for something I will not use. And it seems that there is no trial version of the Pro version, only for the normal version.

So, with the new FF version 4 must come a new preset parser to accommodate custom folders and subfolders smile:) :
