I have been having always problems when reading the Filter Forge Help .chm file because the included reader inside Windows 7 is not the best one and gives problems many times, and removes the images, or the links get broken, or some other problems.
So I have been searching for a free replacement for this cmh reader, and recently I have seen that there was a PDF software that was awarded a prize for being very good AND still be free. As there are many alternatives for CHM files by they are not cheap, I would pay for it if it would be a justified price. It is called Sumatra PDF
More information is also available in Wikipedia Sumatra PDF AND it does NOT need any installation if you do not want, is portable, and directly works without any installation. It has included all the needed features and well done and fast, although this does not convert from CHM to PDF. I have seen this is a trusted and good software that works much better than the one included in Windows. And I have tested this with other software that also use CHM files like Genetica or Black Ink, and I have seen that the way this software shows the information is better and without problems. Also I do not trust many of the FREE software because I have had the experience that some of them hide some dark and obscure background and may include secret spyware or unwanted things, and then later is difficult to remove them. So is good to know that this does not have any dark side. MAC USers Sorry that I do not know any CHM reader that may be good, as I can´t test it. Please if you know any good CHM reader for MAc that you like, please put it here, thanks. |

Mac doesn't use chm as a standard file format; FF help in Mac is html.
But if anybody's curious here's one: http://www.robinlu.com/ichm |
