Hi,

I am wondering just how long one should wait on a rendering while using the filter, Paint HDRtist? I am using FF3.0 Professional on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB 667 MHz RAM. The size of the image is 3872 X 2592 (72dpi). I am using FF as a standalone and tried using the filter in the default setting. I have been waiting 24 hours and the rendering looks to be about 30% (the progress bar hasn't appeared to move forward for a couple of hours now). Any ideas?

Thanks,

Daniel Paxton

That filter shouldn't take 24 hours nor should it take an hour to render anything at that resolution. I think something's wrong there! Might want to just quit out and try a different filter.

Yes, something is wrong. It may be your computer specs (low amount of quite slow RAM and I'm guessing there is no dedicated graphics card in it)... as they barely meet the minimum requirements. Probably choked the computer and now it's locked up.

Just to give you something to compare it to, I just tested the filter on a 3000x3000 image (limits of FF3 Basic version)on a desktop with C2D 2.9GHz, 8GB RAM, Radeon 4350 GPU and 64bit Vista. Came back to computer after 20 minutes and it was done rendering.

I'll test it on my slower computer later today.

I did the same with an HP 'puter set up about the same as Ozmandias' (faster cpu, less ram) and rendering took about 20 minutes. (hate this 3000 pixel limitation)

With this 3872 x 2592 and the Paint HDRtist filter it can´t never take more than one hour (unless it was a very slow computer), Filter Forge may be very slow sometimes and you ahve to wait a lot but would never take 24 hours to make a result and even much less that it had a 30% render result in 24 hours smile:?: smile:?: if the progress bar hasn't appeared to move forward is because something has happened in the computer and have entered probably an infinity loop, and the only possible thing is to restart it and try again.

Does this happens always that you try to do it?

Does it happens the same with other filters?

Is there any other software working at the same time in the background or together with filter forge?

How much time does it take to make the preview image before rendering?

Daniel Paxton, we have the same problem with this filter on Mac. Our developers'll try to solve this problem as soon as possible.

All I can suggest for you at the moment is not using PaintHDRtist now.

Jane

Thanks for your help. If I cut the image size in half the filter works well. Other filters that I have tried appear to be working well.

Thanks for your input. Once I cut the image file in half PaintHDRist worked OK. I don't have this issue with other filters (yet). I have only tried a few. When I use it as a stand alone it is the only substantial piece of software running and it uses most of the available cpu. It usually take a few minutes for the preview. Thanks again.

That's probably a good idea. I did the test on my slower computer (sorry for the delay... I thought I could get it done before I went out of town). Same 3000x3000 image. Computer has very similar specs as the other one except that it has half the RAM (4GB) and a 32-bit OS (Win XP).

The render of Paint HDRtist took 2 hours.
