Is it possible to use layers in FilterForge, when using it as a stand alone application, separate from Photoshop?
Or do i have to apply one filter, save it, then reopen it in FF to apply a second filter?

Is not possible to use layers inside Filter Forge (FF) as stand alone or even as a plugin, but you can use layers outside of Filter Forge if you are using Photoshop, I mean that you can have a layer in Photoshop and select it and apply the filter effect to that layer, and then select another layer and apply same or another different filter effect, and the combine both layers with or without blend modes.

You can´t apply TWO filters at the same time on the same image or layer, as you said, you have to load into FF the layer or image, apply the effect, render it and save it or apply it if inside Photoshop and then repeat again for another layer or image.

You can´t combine two filter to one image at once, at least without entering into the filter editor and combining both filters into only one, which it can complex and difficult and the result could be not the same and be also sometimes more slower.
