Hi All, I'm wanting to download all the filters from FF, but when I select Tools > Options > Online, I find the "Use The Built-in Library Browser" has Obsolete in backets. Do I take this to mean that this option is no longer reliable to use? If so, then is there another way for installing all the fiters rather than one-by-one (taking forever)? Cheers.

Yep that is still a great way for batch-downloading filters. I think the brackets are there just to highlight that there are two methods for downloads. Be careful thou not to get crazy at downloading filters...If you have a whole lot of filters it takes FF longer to open just like if you have thousands of fonts on your computer it takes longer to choose which one you like... smile;) smile:)
Carl had a recent issue with FF4 and lots of filters....
To many filters spoiled the pot..
Stupid things happen to computers for stupid reasons at stupid times!

You can safely use the filter browser to download the filter and is a very good alternative way to the online downloading AND you can download lots of filters at once this way, so is uch faster than one by one as it happens with the FF online library.

I have made a thread some time ago explaining the differences, advantages and disadvantages of using this

Please see this threadAdvantages and Disadvantages of using the OL and OLIFF Filters Library

ALSO I like much the Filter Browser as I has much bigger and better thumbnails than the tiny and little thumbnails from the FF Filter list

Also some comments related to this between Morgantao and me

YES, IS TRUE, I LIKE VERY MUCH the Filter Forge Browser, is this a SIN or bad thing ?

It's not a sin, at least not a mortal sin

I am the only one to use it and that finds it very helpful and useful?

You're not the only one. I use it all the time.

WHY is the Filter Forge Browser considered OBSOLETE ?

It's considered obsolete because the online library is supposed to be better, according to FF inc.

WHY it will not be updated and made it even better AND use it for EVEN MORE THINGS ?

Because it's obsolete. The gods have said so. Don't second guess or question the gods.

It would be a VERY BIG AND HUGE ERROR TO REMOVE IT IN FF 4.0 and they would take out the FF browser, UNLESS they change it for an updated different browser.

I agree. Another reason why it probably WON'T be in FF4.

The FF browser is very useful and helpful to view the filters IN A MUCH BETTER way than is possible with the really very tiny small filter list that is shown in the left side in the filter list, AND IS INVALUABLE AS MASS FILTER DOWNLOAD.

Another good reason not to have it in future versions. Life should be interesting. Not easy

Why would FF force to download filters one by one if they remove the FF browser?

Because they can, MUAHAHAHAHA!

I do not think they will do it.

I sure hope not!

Although now there will be the new Filter Manager in FF 4.0, I do not know if this will let you make mass download of filters, so the filter browser would still be needed if you can´t.

I forgot to put

Advantages and Disadvantages of using the OL and OLIFF Filters Library

1 - Using the OL (Online Library) which is in the FF website.

2 - Using the OLIFF (Obsolete Library Inside Filter Forge)

Alternatively, you can purchase the whole filter library compressed in a single ZIP archive.

I've just emailed GMM the following idea.

Why not make available to users each year the choice of either two DVD's to buy:

1) a master DVD of every filter prodced to date, and
2) an annual DVD of all the filters produced for the current year.

This way people can stay on top their collections if the Built In Browser does in fact become obsolete. It's worth considering, if at least to let users know the option to buy is there. Cheers.

We've already tried offering a subscription but there are technical hindrances for that.

A sidenote: PMing moderators is bad stuff.

No worries. Sorry about the PMing. Didn't realise that. I just saw the E-Mail link below the post and thought I'd use it. Thanks.

To Morganto, I was wondering if it's difficult to be able to allow FFCat to grab multiple filters (SHIFT+Scroll or CTL+Click) and assign them to a custom category. I tried this last night but it would only perform this function one filter at a time. Cheers.

You can assign multiple filter at once to a category by dragging them to that category. Or at least that's how it's SUPPOSED to work. If you have any problems with it tell me so we can figure out the bug.

NUMBER 1

The number 1 is already available to buy from the FF Store, if you buy the latest Filter Forge Library you will get ALL the filters that has been released until now, I mean ALL the filters that are available in the online library.

WHY A DVD?

Why would be needed a 4,7 GB DVD ?

I have about 3200 filters in my library and they ONLY take 140 MB in total, so it would be fine in a CD too, or better in a download.

The Filter Forge Library Browser will still be available and working in FF 4.0 so it will not become obsolete, well not more than it already is smile;) smile:D
