I am still new and learning 3D software and I own
Poser 2012
Bryce 7 Pro
Daz Studio 4
Carrara 7 Pro.

I have seen many of you using the textures and render maps in other 3D softwares and I want to ask if there is any tutorials about this topic.

I have used the excellent
Spherical 3D Displacement Previewer by ThreeDee V 2.0 and have made the examples shown in this thread

Now I would like to make the same 3D spheres in a true and real 3D software and use the same render maps in the 3D software.

Please, is there any tutorials on how to use the textures and render maps from FF in a 3D software?

I have already tried to use the render maps I have made from FF in Poser and DAZ Studio and the only one that works badly is the diffuse map smile:(

I have only found until now this request for a 3D tutorial that is this wiki addition request: 3D tutorial

Which software is the best (not one that is too complex) for using the render maps from FF ?

Which one do you use ?

Thanks very much for your help and sorry for this basics questions as I know that you are very much experienced with this.

They'll all work in your favor, it's just that you'll have to find your way around those programs on your own.

In filter forge export the DIFFUSE, BUMP and or NORMAL maps. Find the inputs for each of those (sometimes diffuse is called color map and bump maybe displacement) and input!

As long as your 3D model has proper UV maps laid out you should be ok. The programs like Bryce Daz Studio does not include UV unwrappers and otherwise. Most things in Bryce are handled procedurally meaning there's almost no need for UV mapping.

I think Carrara can unwrap UVs but I don't remember.

Personally I find Bryce the easiest of those four, maybe because I've used it the most.

I´m sure there are texturing tutorials for each of the programs you listed. Just google it.

Generally you want to put the diffuse map in the diffuse slot and the bump map in the bump slot. And if you have a specular map that goes into the specular slot.
In a game engine you usually use a normal map instead of a bump map.
It´s different in every program, read the manual^^

As for your other question, there is no best software for the maps. They can be used by all programs. Which Software you use depends on your needs, what you want to do with it.

I use Max and Zbrush and the maps I create with my filters work just fine.

Youtube video of somebody doing Normal maps in Carrara http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3xocEZSTRE

I don't know how useful that is to you

Oh yeah forgot about the UV part, but I think the daz and poser models are already unwrapped, aren´t they?
I think best is if you do a search and watch tutorials for the software you use.

Thanks very much for all your comments that are useful and helpful and will see what I can do.

I have been reading the manual of Poser and it puts that the bump maps that need to modify the geometry of the object needs to be done with a displacement map.

Yes I have seen that depending of the software the name of the input can be different or the same name can have a different meaning.
