There has been since some time ago that frequently appears some threads that are started by a new user just registered and with just ONE post and is a SPAM thread and post
![]() This has happened many times already so I decided to make this thread to help Some of the times this same user has made 2 or 3 other SPAM threads OR have posted spam posts in other already active threads. Today someone with the name of Xieng has opened a SPAM thread with LOTS of texts inside and links to other websites and only has 1 post made And this is a great works for GMM to find, detect and delete this kind of SPAM, and can´t read every single post that is not from a known user to see if this is SPAM or not. So I am suggesting to find a way to CONTROL NEW REGISTERED USERS in some possible way. CONTROL THE FIRST 3 POSTS ? Recently I was trying a new software, and the only way to have support was to register in the forum to ask question to the company. And when I signed the agreement it was said that the first 3 posts I made in the forum would need to be approved first by the moderator and would NOT appear directly in the forum. So this way they avoid SPAM robots and know if it is human or not. But this would perhaps be more work for GMM to control all the new users HAVE A CAPTCHA WHEN REGISTERING NEW USERS I also have seen that would be possible to have some kind of Captcha of the many available to be able to tell the difference between Humans and Computers automatically when a new user wants to register to the forum. |

We've already got a captcha in the account creation form but the spammers seem to OCR it.
I personally don't think the current amount of spam generates more inconvenience as compared to the pre-approval of new users' comments. |

Sorry, that I did not know that you already have a captcha in the register as I am registered since long time ago.
Perhaps you could put another kind of captcha or make it better, or whatever so you are not "invaded" by the spam robots as this is surely not a human person doing it.
Yes, I agree that perhaps this is too much according to the amount of Spam that finally is able to enter the forum. |

FF doesn't get any spam compared to most forums, like a statistically insignificant amount, less than 1%, get over it and ignore the few that pop through.

I think that the spammers are knowing that is easy and possible to enter inside the FF forum and can leave many threads with their SPAM
as you can see that yesterday there was 2 threads and todays there is 4 new ones. Althugh they are now doing badly as it very clear and obvious that this threads are spam, before was less clear ![]() |

My suggestion is to add http://sweetcaptcha.com/
It's OCR proof as you have to look at icons + robot proof as you have to drag and drop. And it's free. And I know the developer's wife ![]() |

You can't stop every spammer from getting in. Some of them are people sitting at computer typing away. I actually think this forum does a good job of controlling spam.

I personally do not care about the SPAM, as really there is very little, and it does not annoy, and if this happens on a normal week GMM is able to spot it and delete it, so I agree that the SPAM is controlled in a good way.
BUT I have put this as a prevention, as now is very little BUT if they find a way to be in the forum they could be MUCH more often and could become perhaps dangerous. |

One of the problems is that you have humans in poor countries creating accounts and posting spam, no bots anymore.
Seen that on several places, specially those that use Google or Facebook authentication. (a) A person creates a bunch of fake accounts (b) Spam is now posted by bots using that account reaching thousands of sites instantly It's better to have what FB has, a separate login, but spammers will always be. What we should have is a way to mark posts as spam (and that would alert the Mods about the post). And only someone logged in can mark as spam, and you have to have been registered at least lets say a month to do that (to prevent spammers from logging in and mark every post as spam to cover the real spam in noise. - I never expected the Spanish inquisition |

I don't know whether it's worth worrying about, and they do have entertainment value often simply for the absurdity of putting them in the wrong place [ metal forging "Bender" as an example ], and how else do we weed out companies that you will never buy or deal with because of there tactics and low morals

Well, I can think of a much easier way than this and that is ALREADY possible and available NOW. We can make a specified SPAM THREAD in the forum that could be used to put links to threads that are SPAM and so GMM would ONLY need to look inside this thread and wuld know if there are any NEW spam included in the forum that we have spotted. |

Hi everyone I'm a moderator on a fairly busy graphics forum and we deal the spam in a number of ways
1. We have an automated system that works with stopforumspam.com and can catch a lot of them at registration or put posts into auto moderation (which means it's not publicly viewable unless one of us manually approves the post.)based on keywords and number of posts. 2. every post has a report button that brings up a report box where members can leave a brief reason as to why they are reporting the post. The odd one still needs to be dealt with manually but the automated system really cuts down on it. |

On my forum, I changed from Captcha to using a challenge question. And I hooked up with stopforumspam. But it's really not difficult for me to spot spam when it does happen, because my forum is dead.

using captcha is not safe now, many spam have ocr technical to extract text from it. so maybe need another stronger protecting. |
