Uh yeah ok, not exactly user friendly and as soon as you open another folder i find when i do that with some apps they pop right back up again.
But i said theres multi-core support coming soon a few posts above.... ![]()

Genetica since the release of version 3.5 DOES support and is optimized to multicore CPUs. You can see it in the 3.5 release news http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/genetic...nounce.htm Also there has been another better update with version 3.6 and more things, and they will soon release 3.7 with more things added, and all of them are free for already owners of 3.0 licence !! |

We have gotten to the point where the only thing we use FF for is effects and very much prefer Genetica 3.6 for its speed and ability to work with photographic images. The interface in 3.6 is much improved and overall time to create a new texture is around 10% to 15% of what it takes in FF for a 3600 x 3600 tile.

Genetica 3.6 is a very good program, but I prefer the results of Filter Forge.
Filter Forge filters are generally more natural. Let's see what they add in the Genetica 3.7 version |

Well, it depends totally what you are looking for and what you need. Really, Genetica CAN´T be compared much to Filter Forge because it is not the same thing, yes, both can make and build seamless tilings of textures and graphics, and you can make your own filters, BUT is very different HOW they do it and the approach to make them, and in Genetica there is NO filters available in any library, just the filters available scattered in the forums and many other differences, and is no the same goal in the end. What is your definition of "more natural" ? In Genetica depends totally on the source images you put and how you use the tools available to work with them. |

Sign Guy your examples are very beautiful, like them much.
YES I agree with you, FF is not the way to go for MAKING photographic textures and make them seamless, and have them in high resolutions, as for this is much better Genetica, you can feed many photos to the textures and there is nO limit and is not needed at all to make or use a filter to make this textures, and the algorithm they have built for this is excellent. Also there is a great difference in SPEED, Genetica is MUCH FASTER than Filter Forge specially when creating high resolution textures, and I have done some 5000 x 5000 in a very few minutes, compared to the long time renderings of Filter Forge for the same resolution. BUT I STILL LIKE MORE FILTER FORGE THAN GENETICA The greatest difference of Filter Forge VS Genetica is that FF has already a huge filters library of thousands of filters available and lots of this filters gives really amazing, beautiful, awesome and wonderful effects results that CAN´T be done in Genetica. There is much more choice in Filter Forge for effects and image modifications and for making artistic designs. BUT FOR MAKING PHOTO TEXTURES IS MUCH BETTER GENETICA But as said above, if what you are looking is to make seamless photo textures, Genetica is the way to go, not only is much faster and better, ALSO has included LOTS AND MANY included source textures very welll done and of high quality as sources to make and mix with your own textures which this is NOT available in Flter forge, and have also lots of presets for making them that also are NOT available in FF. Also is easier to use and has more options and there is no limit on the photos you can use, and also is not limited to the amounts of photos you can use, and you can define patches in different shapes fr om the photos to use them as source to build the textures. IN THE END IF I HAD TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE SOFTWARE, I WOULD CHOOSE FILTER FORGE I regretably would choose Filter Forge because it has much more effects and many more possible uses, and thousands of effects, distorsions and modifications that can be made to the image sources. I say "regretably" because Filter Forge is MUCH SLOWER than Genetica, and you need much more time for the rendering in higher resolution, because you can´t use a 600 x 600 or 1000 x 1000 graphic for graphic design that is going to be printed, is needed at least 3000 x 3000 as minimum, as this is wh ere FF dies in comparison to Genetica AND MANY other similar graphics softwares and filters available for Photoshop as they have been optimized and made faster for the new computer technologies. |

It doesn't happen in all cases, but I saw several Genetica final picture ( after the filter/effect was applied ) looking like plastic version of the original item. For example, a wooden floor looking like a plastic copy of a wood surface. Or other pictures where the effect was not well merged with the rest of the picture, so the area where it was applied looked detached from the background and a bit floating. It rarely happen with good FF filters. But, I repeat, it is not something that always happens. Some other pictures are very good and realistic. |

Well here's the thing ... my customers are wide format print designers and producers in the sign and vehicle wrap markets. The market made up of 3D modelers and Second Life folks is not one I service. My customers tend to shy away fr om CG textures and very much prefer photo tiles. Even at sites like Dreamstime and Fotolia, wh ere I have a good selection of both CG and photo tiles, what sells in significantly higher numbers are the photo based tiles.
I agree that Genetica's CG capabilities tend to look very artificial ... but they are light years ahead of FF if you want to use photo resources. Add to that their Canvas and text features and the previously mentioned speed advantages and Genetica runs circles around FF ... for what I use either program for. FF shines in the effects and distortions department which is why I still use it. But effects aren't used all that much to make tiles. Rather they come into play for modifying existing images. Genetica is much more in tune with my needs for a tool to produce tiles that will have commercial appeal. ![]() ![]() Fred Weiss

With this you have said all, because I have been some time working helping a company like this and they need very high resolutions and great quality and time is money, so they need a fast software that can make what they need in a fast way, and the best for this is Photoshop and Genetica as both are fast and optimized for working in very high resolutions. They asked me to make graphics of 7000 x 7000 until 12000 x 9000, working with this sizes in Filter Forge is not possible as it is TOO slow. So in this case, the choice is obvious, any software that is optimized for professionals and is fast enough, and for making realistic photographic textures, the best I have seen is Genetica.
Is true that many people prefer and much higher demand photo tiles and photo textures than CG textures.
I can´t tell if the CG capabilities of Genetica look artificial, because I have ONLY used Genetica with Photo based graphics and textures, so I really do not know. YES, I agree that Genetica is light years ahead of FF if you want to use photo resources to make textures and large seamless tiles, as the algorithm used and the way to build them is much better in Genetica. As you say it has canvas, AND MOST IMPORTANT, Genetica INCLUDES TEXT and you can use it many ways and even you can apply lots of styles and effects to the texts. You do not have any TEXT option inside FF. And all is done much faster than in Filter Forge at high resolutions, even they have previews nearly in realtime!!
YES, I agree FF is excellent and shines much and is much better over Genetica when talking about special effects, distorsions, graphical creations and creating graphics generated from FF itself. In this case I don´t have any doubt to choose Filter Forge over Genetica, and in the same way is light years ahead in this topic, well I coud also say, thousands of filters ahead ![]()
I agree, you must use the software that is best for your work and your needs and the commercial thing you have to do, and you choose right with Genetica. |

It's just like you don't see many taxi companies getting people around on motorcycles, and you don't see a surgeon using a Singer sawing machine to close up when he's done.
Every job needs it's own tools, and you can't use tools that are somewhat similar. ![]() |

I agree Morgantao, as you say it depends on what you want and need specially and more important if this is for a business. As you say very well every job needs it´s own tools.
There are some things to make with Genetica, some thing with Filter Forge, others only with Photoshop, and others things with others plugins, filters or different softwares. |
