Component grouping/subroutines and bombers (particle tools) are two main v2 features that I remember reading about somewhere...

Edit: Found something...

cool stuff that might get into a major future version: soft shadows for surface type filters, better support for color management (this one actually might slip into 1.x, but I'm not sure enough for now), metacomponents (a tree of components represented as a single component), bomber components and a lot more.

According to the current plan, the major items to be included into 2.0 are bombers, shapes, full range of math components with unclamped output, local search for filters, and grouping of components in the Editor.

Bombers and shapes are relatively easy to do. Math components may pose certain difficulty since they will require control components with numeric input, which, in turn, may require serious infrastructural changes. Grouping of components within the Editor is also a difficult task.

Cool if we can save those custom made groups then i will most likely use FF more, i never did get the whole use others filters thing myself apart for effects, i mean personally i could never be satisfied using someone elses project unless it was just adding a grain to a image or making a interesting 3d scene. Its always been about the building here smile:D But FF at the moment is quite annoying to use interesting things over again, i do this in Genetica with my saved groups which i have in a catagorized library and it really speeds things up and makes getting nice results alot easier, hopefully the new version of FF will improve on that. smile;)

Mind I am good at guessing possible reasons for things happening/not happening... and you know what 55% of the time I'm right.. just watch out for the 45% I'm not smile:D. The 45% side can get you into a pickle of paranoia and ultra trouble with speculation and rumours. smile;)

the mac version is getting near done. i think that may be what you're 'smelling'. now, what 'near done' means in actual time... i'd hazard a guess at no more than a few months now. and i think vlad has been visiting the lawyers in virginia about the eula... of course, all of that is just guess work and subject to being completely wrong smile:)

I just wish Vlad would toss us some tiny bits about how the development is coming along. The total radio silence regarding that topic kind of makes me feel the mac beta might be further away than we all hope. smile:|

Besides, it's about time for another official news item. smile;)

it isn't exactly something we can unleash on an unsuspecting (well, you ARE suspecting something as it seems) populace, but it ... works smile:)

This appears to hint at a 'late alpha --> soonish beta' state of the Mac version... smile;)

Yes, the Mac version is making good progress. We'll announce it officially sometime this fall, and post some screenies with the announcement. I wouldn't call it a 'late alpha', but, as you all already know, I'm a perfectionist smile:)

Will there be a closed beta first? Or will you be going open beta in fall?

Also, can we assume that you're in the process of making the code largely platform-independent, or will there still be two codebases after v2?

Dilla, we'll do an open beta -- our first beta was a great experience.

As for the platform-independence, yes, we're using a single codebase approach.

The only thing I'm really afraid of is rumors about Apple ditching Carbon in their next OS. Rewriting the entire GUI for Cocoa doesn't sound fun.

Anyway, we'll see soon. After all, Photoshop is written in Carbon too, and that's several million lines of code, if I remember correctly -- quite a lot of porting for Adobe. They won't be happy at all.

If that is the case.....then I would make an educated guess that you are remedying the 'resource leak' problem in PC V1.xxxx and then releasing the Mac version upon the "fixed" code.....maybe even releasing Mac version with the PC V2 enhancements/goodies as well.....

How am I doing??? smile:devil:

Yep, you do, but I don't think we'll see anything before autumn smile:) I'd totally love quicker and sloppier betas, Valve style, but our stuff is still too half-baked to release.

As for overall progress, we already have some of the features for v2.0 implemented, but the big back-end work is still underway -- some of the new features we're planning require significant infrastructural reworking.

Half-baked is my middle name... well actually it is Peterson, but I wouldn't mind just playing with anything new at this point...

Also any news with the EULA?

Not yet -- I want to finish the technical stuff first, to keep the programmers busy. As for the situation with the EULA in general, I'd like to try a more radical approach than we discussed before, something closer to Steam / microstock / Gilette business model, but that's a bit too early to discuss.

steam? i hate steam if you're talking about the gamer's Steam. that is WAY too intrusive! the last game i bought that had Steam, i couldnt even install the game until i installed Steam. i bought the game for the game, not Steam's intrusive, in your face, crap. so, i do hope what you're thinking of isnt like the Steam i'm thinking of!

All kidding aside, I did not mean to make it look like you said it.

Come to think of it, I was going to reply to your steam comment but got very sleepy. That's when I decided to reply the Vlad's comment. I guess I pasted in his words to your quote - sorry.
