Thanks - its been quite an adventure through various lua guides and pixel blender sources. The raytracer part is based on Tom Beddards implementation for pixel blender (http://www.subblue.com/), the fractal variations are from various sources and experimentation.
I'm not ready to publish the filter yet - its too messy at the moment, and I'm hoping to figure out some optimizations that make it a bit more ..mm.. realistic for normal usage, hehe. |

Hey Everyone,
Awesome work Sphinx.! What 3D program did you use, 3D Max?
Filter Forge?

Yes, it is 100% filter forge (or rather 100% script component, I'm not using the FF shader). The script is build up of three parts, a small vector "class" I made for lua, a raytracer with extended phong shader and the actual mandelbulb distance estimation routines

Hey Sphinx.
That is almost hard to believe! I didn't think Filter Forge was capable of such great 3D work! I realllly.... feel old now...LOL. Great job! Have a wonderful day! Ron zazzle.com/Ronspassionfordesign*

Hmm, I guess lol.. it is not easy to "navigate" around when you have to wait minutes for even lofi renderings to complete. I guess I need to get a light in there and have a look Meanwhile here is another rendering - the shadow caster now works better with the phong shader (I forgot to reset the ray variable) |

Looks like I will not be doing any renderings for some time.. FF2 is not working at all here, downloaded and installed and when I run it, nothing happens..sigh

WOWWWW !!! Many thanks to make me discover this software.
I do like this. Fractal, kaleidoscope, and 3D, it's great. I'm downloading the package to work in Photoshop. Thanks again ! Best Regards. ++ PS : I works with Apophysis3Dhack too, it's a great software. |

The script is the whole thing - raymarching, distance estimations, shadowcaster, phong shader. I'm trying to find a good way to seperate some of the things into several script components though, but I just have too many result vars to fit into the FF argb result mode. I'm considering using some sort of multipass approach, where you request a specific var from a source prop (using curvescripts t variable as index) |

Maybe it could be distributed across several filters. FF could introduce a separate fractal library where filter seeds (intermediate math) could be used between and across filters using the selection as input.

Super Awesome! I have played with Mandelbulber a little bit and so would love to use your filter in Filter Forge! If you need/want someone to give it some test runs I would be happy to help out! :o)
